What to Do Wednesday (One Day Late - on Purpose!) January 1, 2026

Your Weekly Guide to Staying Politically Active—From Abroad

🌟Thursday 1 January 2026 🌟

The Work Begins Today

Dear Democrats Abroad Italy friends,

Happy New Year.

I hope the past week brought you rest, warmth, and moments of real connection. As we step into 2026, we do so together, grounded and ready, with a renewed sense of purpose.

Today is not just the first day of the year. It is the day our work begins in earnest.

Today’s Action: Request Your Ballot

As of today, January 1st, Americans abroad can request their overseas ballots for 2026. Go to:

Vote from Abroad

This is one of the most important actions you can take all year.

  • Overseas ballot requests are not automatic
  • Many states require an overseas  ballot request every calendar year.
  • Early requests prevent problems later

Requesting your ballot now ensures that when the time comes, your vote will count.

Why This Matters

We ended last year with signs of real momentum. Approval ratings for the current administration remain historically low, and dissatisfaction is widespread. That tells us something critical.

Change is possible. But only if we organize for it.

Americans abroad play a decisive role in close elections. In 2026, that role will matter more than ever. The midterms are our opportunity to shift power, protect democratic institutions, and build a future that reflects our values.

That future begins with one simple step.

This Week’s Call to Action

  • Request your ballot today
  • Share the ballot request link with at least one other American abroad
  • Let Democrats Abroad Italy know if you want to help others request theirs

If you have already requested your ballot, thank you. Your next action is outreach. A reminder from a trusted friend is often what makes the difference.

Need help? Let us know by responding to this quick survey and a trained voter assistant will be in touch!.

How You Can Help

As we move into the new year, Democrats Abroad Italy is building the team that will carry us through the 2026 election cycle. There are many ways to get involved, whether you have a little time or a lot.

Current opportunities include:

  • Phone banking with other US citizens living abroad.

Help reach American voters abroad by making calls that encourage ballot requests and voter participation.

  • Voter Assistance Training

Get trained to help voters navigate ballot requests, deadlines, and common challenges.

  • Merchandise Coordinator

Support fundraising and visibility by helping manage and promote Democrats Abroad Italy merchandise.

If any of these roles interest you, or if you want to help in another way, we would love to hear from you, please write us at [email protected]

Moving Forward Together

The holidays gave us space to rest. This week gives us direction.

In the weeks ahead, we will be:

  • Supporting voters through the ballot request process
  • Expanding our outreach across Italy
  • Building the volunteer energy needed to win in 2026

For now, start with this one action. It is small, concrete, and powerful.

Thank you for being part of Democrats Abroad Italy. Thank you for beginning this year with intention and commitment. Together, we can turn momentum into results.

With resolve and hope for the year ahead,

Leyani Redditi
Chair, Democrats Abroad Italy
