Greetings from the politically active Democrats in Montpellier! We're a friendly community of U.S. citizens living in and around the area surrounding the southern French city of Montpellier. Engaging both in-person and online, we educate our members and non-members about their voting rights as Americans Abroad.
Our Leadership team curates a range of gatherings, such as informal political discussions, quiz nights, and family-friendly meet ups. We're actively involved in Global Democrats Abroad activities, hosting guests from Congress and the Cabinet, some of whom have roots in our very own Democrats Abroad community. We frequently gather to celebrate American holidays like the 4th of July and Thanksgiving, engaging in conversations about history, literature, and cultural trends, which enriches our experience of these occasions.
As a result of the 2024 U.S. election, a tremendous amount of concern continues to emerge among Americans in France and throughout the world over the treat to democracy in the United States by the current administration, the abrogation of long-held international alliances, and the threat to global trade and economic cooperation. In Montpellier, these concerns are demonstrated both in the enthusiastic response to UVD’s Resistance Sing-Along on April 5 and the growing stream of new members to the local chapter of Democrats Abroad.
