DA Denmark Book Club Discussion of On Freedom by Timothy Snyder

Join us online on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30 PM for an important and thought-provoking discussion of On Freedom by renowned historian Timothy Snyder.

As we begin the New Year, we also step into a critical moment in American history. Snyder’s powerful exploration of the threats to democracy—from disinformation to authoritarianism—offers both a sobering analysis and a call to action. With Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States just one day before our discussion, the question of what freedom truly means and who it serves has never felt more urgent.

In On Freedom, Snyder challenges us to rethink freedom not as the absence of state interference but as the ability to thrive, take risks, and build futures together. Drawing on philosophy, history, and his own experiences, he identifies the practices and mindsets necessary to create a government where individuals and communities can flourish. His vision is one of abundance, generosity, and grace—an inspiring antidote to the crises of our time.

Initially, this book was chosen to inspire us. Now we hope it provides us with the fortitude we will need for the work ahead as well. We invite you to take some time over the holidays to read Snyder’s words and consider his message about the responsibilities that come with freedom.

We hope you’ll join us for this timely and important conversation. RSVP now to receive the meeting link.
