Social media is both a great opportunity and a massive broadcaster of disinformation about voting from abroad.
Democrats Abroad is asking you to help us take advantage of the opportunity, and push back against disinformation!

How to get started

1. Check your social feeds for election-related posts.
Look for posts from friends, family, news organizations, influencers, or community groups where people are talking about the election or voting.

2. Join the conversation.
Add a comment that reminds U.S. citizens abroad they can vote, and point people to VoteFromAbroad.org for registration and ballot assistance. You don't have to get into an argument. A simple, accurate comment can put the right information in front of hundreds or thousands of people.

U.S. citizens living abroad can vote in the U.S. election, regardless of how long you've been abroad, or if you have a current address in the States. Register or get tailored support at VoteFromAbroad.org.

After ballot drop day on September 19th

Combat Voter Myths

Confusion: I don’t have an address in the US, so I can’t vote any longer.
Truth: You don’t need to have a current US address. Voters abroad can vote where they last resided, regardless of how long you’ve been away, or if you have any connection to that address now.

Combat Disinformation

 Here are some of the claims we hear most often on social media, along with responses you can use when replying in social media comments.

Claim 1: “USPS won't send a ballot.”
Truth: Voters abroad don't have to rely on USPS to receive their ballot. Go to VoteFromAbroad.org, and request your ballot be sent to you by email. Every state can send ballots by email to voters registered as living abroad in every state. Get started at VoteFromAbroad.org.

Claim 2: “My ballot won't arrive in time.”
Truth: You don't have to wait for a ballot to arrive by mail! Americans abroad can request ballot delivery by email through VoteFromAbroad.org. This bypasses the USPS and ensures you get your ballot lickety split. 

Claim 3: “You can't vote if you've lived abroad too long / have no address in the U.S.”
Truth: Yes, you can! Living abroad for years doesn't take away your right to vote in U.S. elections. You’re eligible to vote using the address where you last resided - even if that was forty years ago! Head to VoteFromAbroad.org to get started.

Claim 4: “Republicans are just going to steal this election, why should I vote?”
Truth: Individual states, not the Federal government, run elections. Your vote matters: overseas votes have been the margin of victory in races all over the U.S. Don’t sit this one out!
