Democrats Abroad Kenya (DAKE) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Digital & Social Media Communications Volunteer. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about political engagement and eager to support the 2024 US Presidential Election cycle. The primary focus will be to drive Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaigns targeting American voters residing in Kenya.

This is a great opportunity for a Kenya-based American student or early career professional, with high school level experience or above, looking for an internship level communications position.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Social Media Management:
  
  
• Create and manage engaging content across various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram) to increase awareness and participation in voting activities.
• Monitor social media channels for trending news, ideas, and feedback, responding to inquiries and comments as necessary.
• Collaborate with the team to develop social media campaigns aligned with GOTV initiatives.
  
  
• Website Content Writing:
  
  
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the DAKE website.
• Write and update content that informs and engages the American expatriate community in Kenya on voting procedures, election updates, and relevant events.
  
  
• Newsletter Development:
  
  
• Assist in drafting content for, creating and distributing monthly newsletters.
• Compile information and updates related to voting, community events, and organizational news.
  
  
• Voter Engagement:
• Participate in voter registration drives and information sessions.
• Develop and implement strategies to encourage voter participation among American citizens in Kenya.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Open to high school students and above with a keen interest in political science, communications, or related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in using social media platforms and basic website management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Creative, proactive, and capable of working with diverse international communities.

 

Time Commitment:

Estimated 2-4 hours per week.

Location: Kenya - this is a remote volunteer opportunity, allowing flexibility in location and work hours.
