Californians Abroad Meet the Candidates Series

The road to victory in 2022 runs through CA thanks to these competitive but winnable districts!

Special Guest - Representative Katie Porter!

    California needs your help!

Our mostly blue state still has many purple and red districts that we must flip. In 2020, we lost one district by 333 votes. We are not going to let that happen again! All roads to victory in the House of Representatives go through California, and we are determined to win them all! Your vote, as a Californian, has never been so important.

The Golden State is leading the way in expanded abortion access, common sense gun laws, cleaner environment, combating wildfires, and much more. These big tent districts with diverse communities demonstrate that, together, we can make our dreams for California, and the United States, a reality.

For Part 2 of our California Dreaming series, we are proud to feature:

    • Jay Chen - CA 45
    • Kermit Jones - CA 03
    • Rep. Katie Porter - CA 47
    • Will Rollins - CA 41

Join the DA Californians Abroad State Team for our Congressional District Series:

    Date: Saturday, October 8th

    Time: 8am PDT / 11am EDT/ 5pm CEST

    RSVP for the Zoom link!

You can also join our CA team to help pave the way to the Midterms!

Building Trust to Empower our Communities with Kyle Van Fleet, APIAVote

    Understanding and Combating Voter Mis/Disinformation

Harmful narratives, including mis- and disinformation, are one of the greatest challenges facing Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in today’s world. They are making communities less safe and trust in the election systems weaker. It is even tearing some families apart. To make matters worse, the issue of harmful narratives is often overlooked as it pertains to AAPI spaces – leaving AAPI communities at greater risk.

Hear from Kyle Van Fleet, Strategic Communications Associate at Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote). Kyle monitors mis- and disinformation as it pertains to AAPI communities and elections, democracy, anti-Asian hate, and other related topics. At this event, he'll speak on how the problem of harmful narratives looks in and impacts AAPI communities, what is being done to confront this issue, and best practices to combat harmful narratives in your own feeds.

    About the speaker:

Kyle Van Fleet (he/him/his) is the Strategic Communications Associate at APIAVote, where he leads the organization's efforts to monitor mis- and disinformation regarding democracy, elections, and harmful narratives impacting or originating from AAPI communities. Kyle also manages APIAVote's social media strategy and supports the organization's overall work on narrative change among other duties. Prior to joining APIAVote, Kyle worked as a Digital Research Associate monitoring mis- and disinformation at GQR during the 2020 election cycle. Kyle is a graduate of James Madison University and is an accomplished professional photographer.
