On June 14, Democrats Abroad Switzerland will be organizing three actions as a part of the global day of defiance against authoritarianism. The events are timed to stand in solidarity with the “No Kings” Day demonstrations taking place across the US and with the women's day strikes taking place in Switzerland on the same date and time.
“President Trump and his Administration have disappeared people off the streets, defied court orders, and attacked our civil rights. Now, he is using our service members to clamp down on our First Amendment right to peacefully protest and as props at his ridiculous birthday parade,” said Democrats Abroad Switzerland Chair Katie Wright. “Enough is enough. We are proud to join this global day of defiance against authoritarianism and to stand in solidarity with our Swiss friends and neighbors fighting for equality.”
Democrats Abroad International Chair Martha McDevitt-Pugh added in a statement, “Over the last few months we’ve seen the resistance to MAGA authoritarianism emerge and strengthen. It will only continue, as more people see how cruel and destructive Trump’s big bad billionaire budget will be to them, even as he spends millions to throw himself a vanity military parade. Democrats Abroad is organizing similar actions around the world to stand with our friends and family back home, because we believe that courage is contagious.”
