DA Welcomes SCOTUS Decision Protecting Overseas Voters

Democrats Abroad welcomes the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding states’ authority to continue counting mail ballots that are postmarked by Election Day and received within legally established grace periods.

This ruling is especially important for U.S. citizens living abroad, who often rely on international mail systems to deliver our ballots to the states where we vote.

"Every eligible American deserves to have their vote counted," said Martha McDevitt-Pugh, International Chair of Democrats Abroad.  "This week’s decision protects our voting rights and is a major win for U.S. citizens abroad."

While this decision preserves important protections for overseas voters, Democrats Abroad continues to encourage Americans living outside the United States to register, request their ballot, and return it as early as possible.
