DAA July '23 Newsletter

DA Alicante Chapter members:

Greetings from your newly elected executive committee!

What’s happening?
Not a lot until the weather cools down! We are planning a meet-and-greet during the first week in September. Look for details in August!

We would be happy to hear your ideas and suggestions. Please bookmark our chapter page for your convenience:  https://www.democratsabroad.org/es_alicante

Good to know…

Democrats Abroad (DA) is a global organization with more than 184,000 members. The global organization is growing quickly, as is our Alicante chapter. Our chapter was formed in 2020 with 50 members. Today, we have more than 200!

Democrats Abroad is treated like a state organization within the Democratic party, with its own delegates attending and voting during presidential nominating conventions.

An estimated nine million Americans live abroad, and with more Americans moving to Spain’s Costa Blanca, we expect more growth ahead.

Choices, choices!
Our main purpose will always be to make sure that as many Americans are registered to vote as possible, and that they are able to receive and return their ballots in time to be counted. If you have any doubt how important your vote is, remember that the margin of victory in recent elections in Georgia and Arizona came from ballots cast from abroad. Find details at votefromabroad.org. The online tool makes it simple to fill out and send in the federal form needed to request your ballot every year. Informational webpages and a Voter Helpdesk provide in depth and personal support to US citizens abroad with requesting, receiving, and returning their ballots to vote in US elections.

The DA organization has other ways to get involved that are focused on your own interests. Joining a global caucus is a great way to meet like-minded people from around the world who are influencing DA and the Democratic party. Active global caucuses are focused on youth, women, veterans and military families, progressives, seniors, and the LGBTQ+ community. For a full list:  https://www.democratsabroad.org/caucuses

DA also recognizes that members retain an interest in the states they vote in, as well as in family and friends at home. Several state-specific teams have been organized, and others are to come. State teams are especially helpful at election time, benefitting from knowledge of local issues and politics. Does your state have a team?
