Message From the Chair
The global fight for a livable future continues. The 3rd Ocean Conference took place in Nice, France in June, where the High Seas Treaty, meant to safeguard marine life in international waters, was ratified by 19 new countries. This brings the number to 49 of the 60 needed to enforce the treaty, and that goal is well within reach. The mid-year U.N. climate conference in Bonn also convened this month, primarily deliberating climate finance. The U.S. declined to participate, due to this administration’s deprioritization of climate issues.
Stateside, the Senate fight over the Big Bad Bill (BBB) accelerates. This bill is set to end federal clean energy incentives, which will be disastrous for the planet and also for Americans’ pocketbooks, as electricity prices are expected to increase. The administration is also promoting deregulation to accelerate the sale of liquefied natural gas (LNG) abroad, raising both prices and safety concerns. Furthermore, this ugly bill will, among other things, curtail help for hurricane survivors, cut renewable energy development, hike up American energy bills, and lose or stall up to 90K clean energy jobs, ultimately enriching a few and abandoning hard working Americans.
We are not sitting idly by, however, and our resistance is paying off, both at home and abroad. The June 14th “No Tyrants, No Kings” protests worldwide, coinciding with the grotesque military parade commemorating the President’s birthday, were an extraordinary display of American resistance, with over 5 million in attendance. And our calls and advocacy have already forced the Senate GOP to cut segments of the BBB which threaten public lands.
Join the resistance! No action is too small. Saddle up for the next round of protests on July 17th under the banner, “Good Trouble Lives On”, across the States and globally. Check out the Take Action section below and subscribe to DA’s Take Action Newsletter for more ideas on how you can get involved! Also, tune in to a webinar organized by DA Caribbean Islands and the ECCC on July 2nd discussing Trees That Feed. Details below.
The fight for climate action is more important than ever, and our resistance must be multi-pronged. Thank you for speaking out, showing up, volunteering, and living a greener life at this critical time!

Chair, DA Environment & Climate Crisis Council

Do you love trees, the environment and lower food prices? Please join Democrats Abroad Caribbean Islands, in cooperation with the global ECCC, for a webinar on Wednesday, July 2nd at 5:00 pm ET/11:00 pm CET. Our guest speaker is Mary McLaughlin from the Trees That Feed Foundation (https://treesthatfeed.org), whose mission is planting fruit trees to feed people, create jobs, and benefit the environment — a quest now more important than ever in the Caribbean Islands and elsewhere, as we face accelerating climate change and skyrocketing food prices.

Urge Your Senators to Protect Clean Energy Tax Credits! The House passed $546 billion in cuts to tax credits and other programs promoting clean energy. The Senate Finance Committee’s draft, now under consideration by the full Senate, is slightly better – but still terrible. We can still act to stop or mitigate the cuts. Your voices have forced the GOP Senators to scale back threats to our public lands in their BBB bill, but we must not stop there.
Opposes Fast Tracking Pipelines and LNG, Urges Congress to Side with People, Not Polluters 65 environmental organizations signed on to a letter urging Congress to oppose the fast tracking of pipelines and LNG. The GOP wants permitting to prioritize Big Oil profits over our health, lives and a liveable future. We are the Party of Clean Energy Solutions and we demand better!
Now is a critical time to step up for climate action and our democracy. Fighting climate change is also fighting poverty and all inequalities. We recommend joining activist groups both within Democrats Abroad and adjacent. You can write and call your representatives – local, state, and federal and both Republican and Democrat – to make your voice heard!
These actions, however small, add up. Following is a valuable organizing blueprint put out by Democrats Abroad on tools of resistance: Resistance Roundtables
