Film Screen: Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your TurnRSVP
Democrats Abroad Germany's Frankfurt Chapter invites you to a film screening and Q&A of the documentary "Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn", an electrifying portrait of the next generation of political leadership in America. This event is co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Team and the Global Black Caucus.
Pennsylvania State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta is no stranger to adversity. Born and raised in North Philadelphia in a family he describes as "working poor," his talent as a community advocate led him at the age of just 28 to become the first openly LGBTQ person of color ever to be elected to PA's General Assembly. He later launched a campaign for the Democratic nomination in PA's 2022 US Senate race. This documentary chronicles his experiences on the campaign trail with his husband Dr. Matthew Kenyatta, Director of Justice and Belonging at the University of Pennsylvania, member of the Philadelphia Public Art Commission and an expert Black representation in urban design. State Rep. Kenyatta ultimately lost the race to now-Senator John Fetterman, but his profile continues to rise: earlier this year he was appointed to the National Advisory Board for President Biden and Vice President Harris's 2024 reelection campaign. He was also named Chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.
"Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn" carries a hopeful message of rising above circumstances and lack of representation to become the leader that is needed for the moment. This event will feature a full in-person screening of the film and a Q&A session in which State Rep. Kenyatta and the filmmakers will join live online. Attendees will have a chance to submit questions directly to State Rep. Kenyatta.
This event is part of a global in-person screening event of this documentary. Other screenings will be held in Toronto and London. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to get inspired and hear from a rising Pennsylvania and national leader!
