Ensuring Access for All: Honoring the ADA, Defending the Future

December 3, 2025 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Join us for a powerful conversation with former Congressman Tony Coelho, author and chief sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Sara Minkara, the former U.S. Special Advisor on International Disability Rights, appointed by President Joe Biden.

Together, we’ll look back at life for people with disabilities before the ADA and the hard-fought efforts that led to its passage in 1990. We’ll explore the profound impact the ADA has had over the past 35 years, the progress still left unfinished, and the devastating consequences of the current Administration’s actions—including attacks on the ADA, cuts to Special Education, and harmful shifts in attitudes toward the disability community, their families, and the caregivers who support them.

We will conclude with an open Q&A, including practical ways each of us can help defend disability rights and work toward meaningful change.

Whether or not you have a direct connection to someone with disabilities, this issue touches all of us: 1 in 4 people in the U.S. and around the world live with a disability. With DEIA (Disability, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) programs and standards being dismantled, it has become the responsibility of American citizens to ensure that every marginalized community receives the respect, opportunities, and protection they deserve.
