A new vacancy for Treasurer in the Democrats Abroad Toronto Chapter to be elected and announced at the Annual General Meeting to take place virtually on May 5, 2026 at 7 pm, details to come soon.
Now more than ever, Democrats need to be actively engaged if we are to confront the existential threat to democracy and our democratic institutions, posed by the new Trump administration. The Toronto Chapter needs your leadership, your energy, your ideas and your enthusiasm! The most important qualification for Chapter positions is that you care.
GOTV (Get out the Vote) is Democrats Abroad's primary mission, and at the chapter level we do that on the ground by hosting in person and virtual events and GOTV activities. We need volunteers to take the lead in our local chapter and support the grassroots work that makes for political victories.
Please consider putting your name forward as Treasurer in the Toronto chapter. You can also nominate someone else, with their permission and agreement to stand. Nominations close midnight on March 21, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities of the position of Treasurer - Toronto Chapter of Democrats Abroad
The Treasurer tracks the chapter’s finances in accordance with and collaboration with the Canada Country Committee Treasurer and the Chapter. The country committee holds all its chapter's funds raised online in trust, receiving donations and sending payments. There is a small petty cash. Guidance is based on U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC).
The Treasurer also helps nurture our community of supporters by ensuring donors receive warm, timely acknowledgments and thanks for their contributions. All financial records must be available for inspection by members.
The Treasurer prepares an Income and Expense Report for monthly meetings and for the Annual General Meeting. The role requires attendance at monthly meetings (or sending regrets) and approximately 1–2 hours of additional work per month, with increased time during fundraising campaigns and occasional additional tasks as needed.
