Now Recruiting: Membership Secretary & GOTV Manager for DA Canada–Toronto

Our chapter is growing, energized, and gearing up for one of the most consequential election years. To keep our community strong and our members empowered, we are opening applications for two appointed leadership positions on the DA Canada–Toronto Board:

• Membership Secretary • GOTV (Get Out The Vote) Manager

These roles are an opportunity to step into the organizational heart of Democrats Abroad, help shape how our chapter serves members, and directly support the work of protecting the democratic process from abroad.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or someone who’s been looking for the right moment to get more involved, these positions offer a meaningful way to contribute.

Why These Roles Matter

Democrats Abroad is powered entirely by volunteers — people who care about civic engagement, community, and ensuring that every American abroad has the information and support they need to vote.

Both the Membership Secretary and GOTV Manager play essential roles in that mission:

  • They help keep our chapter connected and responsive

  • They support members through the voter registration and ballot request process

  • They strengthen our ability to mobilize voters in critical election cycles

  • They help build a welcoming, informed, and active community

These positions are not just administrative — they are leadership roles that directly impact voter turnout and member engagement.

Membership Secretary

The Membership Secretary helps keep our chapter’s membership healthy, active, and up to date. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organizing information, connecting with people, and helping members stay engaged throughout the year.

What the role involves

  • Welcoming new members and helping them get connected

  • Keeping our membership database accurate and current

  • Reaching out to members whose emails bounce or whose membership is expiring

  • Supporting volunteer onboarding by coordinating with the Volunteer Manager

  • Providing monthly updates on membership trends and growth

  • Helping ensure our chapter is ready for elections, events, and outreach

This role can be shared between two co‑Membership Secretaries, and full training is provided — including NationBuilder, GDPR, and database tools.

Estimated time commitment: 3–10 hours per month, with a bit more during presidential election years.

GOTV Manager

The GOTV Manager leads our chapter’s voter outreach efforts — a vital part of ensuring Americans abroad can successfully register, request ballots, and vote.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys community engagement, planning activities, and helping voters navigate the process.

What the role involves

  • Completing Voter Assistance (VFA) training

  • Tracking voter registration and assistance activity

  • Reporting monthly to the Board on GOTV progress

  • Helping plan and support GOTV events, including street canvassing

  • Sending targeted voter outreach messages

  • Coordinating with the national and global GOTV teams

  • Being part of the leadership communications program (currently Mighty App)

September and October are especially active months, and the GOTV Manager plays a key role in ensuring our chapter is ready.

Who Should Apply?

Anyone who is:

  • Interested in strengthening democratic participation

  • Comfortable learning new tools (training provided!)

  • Collaborative, reliable, and community‑minded

  • Looking for a meaningful way to contribute in an election year

  • Curious about how Democrats Abroad works behind the scenes

You do not need prior experience — just enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and a commitment to helping fellow Americans vote.

Both roles can be adapted to your strengths, and responsibilities can be shared if more than one person is interested.
