Election 2025: Dems Abroad Getting Out the Vote

Democrats Abroad Getting out the Vote for Critical 2025 Elections

2025 is a critical election year in the USA, with important and high profile races taking place across the country. The election season is currently in full swing and culminates on November 4, 2025. High profile races include those for governor of New Jersey and Virginia, the Election Rigging Response Act (Proposition 50) in California, mayor of New York City, and hundreds more pivotal statewide and local elections across the country.

For the past nine months, Donald Trump has been busy consolidating power, pursuing his political opponents, governing to benefit the 1%, and attacking the very foundations of our democracy. This upcoming election is a crucial moment for us to use our voice and our vote to fight back for a better future for all Americans.

With Democrats in the minority in Washington D.C. and with the current government shutdown, the roles of governors, mayors and state legislatures are more important than ever. They have the most power to protect and fight for the people they represent. They can pass laws locally to backfill healthcare and education cuts, address cost of living issues, and focus on meeting their communities’ most urgent needs.

Despite Trump dominating the headlines, Democrats have significant momentum, electorally. Since Trump took office, Democrats have won 44 of 45 key elections this year, in some cases flipping districts which recently voted for Trump by wide margins.

This election will also set the stage for the November 2026 Congressional elections, when all 435 members of the US House of Representatives and a third of the US Senate will be up for election. Trump and his acolytes are trying to rig the election in their favor through gerrymandering, voter suppression and other tactics that fly in the face of Democracy. California’s Prop 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, is one way Democrats are fighting back.

“We can't vote them out, if we don’t vote” said Democrats Abroad International Chair Martha McDevitt-Pugh, “In 2022, 12 Congressional races were determined by less than 1% of the vote. In these races, Americans abroad routinely make up the margin of difference! At this crucial time in our nation's history, it’s never been more important to VOTE, and DA is hard at work mobilizing our members to do so.”

Most of the 2025 elections are not for federal office, and election rules vary by state. All Americans living abroad should go to votefromabroad.org TODAY to ensure they’re registered and to find their state’s specific voting guidance. There, they can also receive the support of trained voting experts.
