Below is a list of current volunteer needs—though it’s not exhaustive. If you have skills or interests in other areas, we’d love to hear from you!

Each opportunity is flexible and shaped around your availability. Whether you can offer 30 minutes a week, a few hours a day, or more—your time makes a difference.

Feel free to select as many areas of interest as you'd like. Once you’ve made your selection(s), someone from our team will reach out with more details. There's no commitment—just a chance to learn more and see what fits.

Communications - Advertising

Democrats Abroad globally and in Spain use a variety of mediums to advertise about our organization and voting from abroad. Volunteers with experience in this field are needed for copy writing, ad design, ad placement and ad reach analysis. There are opportunities to volunteer in Spain and at the global level.

Communications - Press Relations/Spokesperson

Spain has a press coordination team that responds to press requests, as well as spokespersons who handle press interviews. We respond to requests in English, Spanish and Catalan. Structured training is given to all volunteers in this area.

Communications - Social Media

Spain has a social media team that posts content from the Democrats Abroad global communications team and promotes voting from abroad and events in Spain. We always need volunteers to post on social media on both the chapters’ and precincts’ social media sites, as well as on DA Spain’s social media sites. Spain is also looking for volunteers who may be interested in launching a Tik-Tok site. The social media team meets virtually every 6 to 8 weeks for an hour. There are also opportunities to volunteer at the global level with the social media team.

Event Planning

One of the key features of Democrats Abroad Spain is building community, therefore our various chapters and precincts host a wide variety of regular and unique events. We are always looking for persons with expertise and/or enthusiasm for the planning of these events. Events are both in-person and on-line. We are open to any kind of event that may attract members.

Fundraising - Event Hosting

Spain has a fundraising committee that raises money, normally to cover the cost of advertising and phone banking campaigns, although we also have small administrative costs to cover. We use a variety of fundraising techniques, including emails, calls and events. We have developed a House Party Model of fundraising, which includes all the information needed to host a successful houseparty fundraiser. We need volunteers to be part of the fundraising committee, coordinate house parties, and host house parties or other fund raising events. We provide support for all fund raising events.

IT/Tech Support

As a Volunteer IT & Communications Support Specialist for Spain, you’ll help maintain the digital infrastructure that powers our outreach—from publishing news and events to managing our membership database and launching email campaigns.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with publishing and updating news articles and event pages on the Spain website (NationBuilder)
  • Maintain and clean membership data, ensuring accurate chapter assignments and contact info.
  • Set up and schedule email blasts for national and chapter-level communications (NationBuilder)
  • Collaborate with country committees, chapter leaders and caucus coordinators to support digital outreach
  • Document workflows and create simple guides for volunteer teams

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with CMS platforms, email marketing tools, and basic database management
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with structured data
  • Ability to communicate clearly across teams

Newsletter

Spain routinely publishes a newsletter on-line. We need assistance with content creation, editing and graphic design.

Phone Banking

Democrats Abroad uses phone banking to remind its members to register to vote, request their ballot and return their ballot. We also call members who are eligible to vote in certain special and off cycle elections. Every phone banker is trained, the calls are free from your computer, you are given a script and you set your own hours. It’s a really easy way to volunteer from home and get connected with likeminded voters.

Start A Democrats Abroad Group In My Area

Spain has At-Large members who are not assigned to a chapter or precinct. If you are an At-Large member and would like to explore getting together with other At-Large members in your area we can let you know how many other members are close to you, and invite them for an informal get together to gauge interest in forming a group. We provide all the tech support, and any materials you may need.

Voter Registration Assistance

Getting out the vote (GOTV) is the number one activity of DA Spain, whether it’s hosting a voter registration event or simply being able to assist a friend or family member to vote from abroad. We almost exclusively use the Vote From Abroad website to register Americans voting from abroad. Vote From Abroad is non-partisan but funded and run by Democrats Abroad. Vote From Abroad provides regularly scheduled training for you to become a certified voter assistant. Once you are certified you can then assist at an organized GOTV event, including student voter registration drives, host an event in your area, or simply feel comfortable advising others.
