Jefferson Cowie is a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, and for 2025, is a Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin and a Guggenheim Fellow. Among other books, he is the author of Freedom's Dominion: A Saga of White Resistance to Federal Power and Stayin' Alive: The 1970s and the Last Days of the Working Class. His essays, reviews, and opinion pieces have appeared in the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, The New Republic, and the Boston Review, among many other outlets.
