2025 🌴
It’s been a year of accomplishments for DA Caribbean Islands!
At our Annual General Meeting in March, we held elections featuring the most votes ever, selecting our 2025-27 Executive Committee and filling vacancies in the positions of Social Media Director, Events Coordinator and Member at Large. (Unfortunately, our Social Media Director and Events Coordinator had to step down later on, so if anyone is interested in those positions please contact us at [email protected]). At the AGM, our revised bylaws were passed unanimously.
Later in the year positions were filled for Vice Chair, Northern and Southern Island Region Captains, and Democratic Party Committee Abroad voting members.
Fulfilling an important goal for the year, we held an online meeting open to all members every month, alternating Executive Committee business meetings with general-interest meetings featuring guest speakers. Speakers included Heather Kashner COO of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (https://www.dlcc.org) on “What is the DLCC and Why Should We Care?”, Steve Johnson of Democrats Abroad Costa Rica on “How to Recruit and Keep Volunteers”, Ada Shen of Democrats Abroad’s global Get Out The Vote team on “How to Motivate Overseas Voters”, and Mary McLaughlin of the Trees That Feed Foundation (https://treesthatfeed.org) on planting fruit trees to feed people, create jobs, and benefit the environment — a crucial mission in the Caribbean Islands in the face of accelerating climate change and skyrocketing food prices.
Also introduced in 2025 was a program of regular online Resistance Roundtables, open to all members, where participants discuss topics of the day and take concrete actions to resist the missteps of the current administration.
Looking forward to 2026 🌴
Looking forward to the New Year, we’ll be organizing events for International Ballot Request Day and verifying our membership in January. We’ll also be making a Get Out The Vote plan for the Caribbean Islands leading up to November’s midterm elections, in which all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.
Let’s make 2026 count. See how you can make a difference. Come to online meetings on the third Wednesday of every month (2026 speakers to be announced), join the Resistance Roundtables (2026 schedule to be announced), and keep in touch on social media — during 2025 we revitalized our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DemocratsAbroadCaribbean) and regained access to our Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/democratsabroadcaribbean). Above all, make sure you’re registered to vote at www.votefromabroad.org!
