In October —

HAVE YOU REQUESTED, RECEIVED AND VOTED YOUR BALLOT YET?

REQUEST MY BALLOT(S)

Voter registration and ballot request deadlines are fast approaching! Don’t miss your opportunity to make sure Democrats take control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

If you haven’t registered or requested your ballot yet, do it today at VoteFromAbroad.org and request to receive it by email.

If you haven’t received your ballot yet and you requested to get it by email, check your spam folder.

If you haven’t received your ballot yet and you requested to get it by postal mail, submit a new form at VoteFromAbroad.org and request to receive it by email–your ballot will be emailed to you within a couple of days. If you can return your ballot by email or fax, do it!

Why use VoteFromAbroad.org to request your ballot every calendar year?

Federal law provides special voting protections for U.S. citizens living overseas—but only if you submit the official federal ballot request. These protections are not automatic. They apply only when you submit the FEDERAL ballot request (as opposed to an absentee ballot from your local election official).

Go to VoteFromAbroad.org today!

Solidarity Sundays, Oct 25 | Project 2027: First Draft
Sun, Oct 25 · 4:00 p.m. · Amerlinghaus

The right-wing movement spent years writing its blueprint. We’re drafting ours.
November 3rd is coming, and whatever happens, Trump has two more years to grift and break things. On October 25, we play what if with the results, one area at a time: The House, the Senate and judges, state legislatures, and turnout. If Democrats win big, squeak by, or nothing flips, what changes? Where can we push from Vienna? We’ll leave with a short watch list.

At our November 15th meetup we check the list against the results. In January, we choose our work for 2027.

DA Austria's Annual Thanksgiving Dinner!
Thurs, Nov 26· 6:00 p.m. · Zoku Rooftop

We'll meet again this year on the rooftop of the Zoku Hotel for a delicious meal and good company to celebrate community in 2026.

Join us for great food and excellent company. Turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings will be on the menu, made from the beloved recipes of the U.S. chef who has prepared our feast for the past few years.

Thanksgiving is about gathering, so bring your family and friends, and bring an appetite for both dinner and conversation. Whether you've been with us for years or this is your first Thanksgiving abroad, there's a seat at the table for you. Prefer to celebrate as a family unit? We'll have cozy, family-sized tables. Want to meet new faces and break bread with the wider community? Pull up a chair at one of our long communal tables.

NEW THIS YEAR: Don't rush off after dessert! We're thrilled to welcome Danny Chicago, who will take the “stage” once the desserts are shared. So stay, catch up with friends, and enjoy the music and the great atmosphere.

Price: €62 per adult, €22 for children 12 and under, plus a minimum donation of $2 per adult to reserve your spot and receive one raffle ticket.

RSVP here.

Voting News:

Run. Don’t Walk – Request and Return your Ballot TODAY!

Voter registration and ballot request deadlines are fast approaching! Don’t miss your opportunity to make sure Democrats take control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

Haven’t registered or requested your ballot yet? Send in an FPCA Ballot Request today and ask to receive your ballot by EMAIL or Online! Don’t forget to check your spam folder for the ballot.

Already registered, but requested your ballot by postal mail and haven’t received it yet? Submit a new FPCA via votefromabroad.org. When asked “How would you like to receive your blank ballot?,” be sure to select “Email or Online.”

Make a plan to vote! Once you get your ballot, prepare to vote and return it right away. Ballots went out on September 19. Check your spam folder if you can’t find it.

Some states require that voted ballots be returned by postal mail
Make sure to send your ballot back using the fastest method your state allows. Find out your state’s ballot return method.

If your state does require you to send it by post, you can use the Austrian postal service or a courier service. The consulate does not recommend using the diplomatic pouch after Oct 1.

You can use priority mail with the Austrian post office. DO NOT send it “Eingeschrieben” and do not add a tracking number — both can slow down delivery.  Alternatively, you can use a courier service. DHL is offering a 20% discount (discount code USA20) for ballots sent to the U.S.

Need help or have questions? DA Austria’s trained volunteers are available to help answer your questions, print your ballot, and help with faxing. See times for voter help tables above.

You can also go to www.VotefromAbroad.org and Find Help Here, or use the chat bubble; or email [email protected]

ZoomTheVote! Voters wanting individual voter support online via Zoom can go to https://www.votefromabroad.org/voter-support for links and session updates. All times are Eastern Standard Time.

Issues and Actions:

Your Donation Dollars at Work

Democrats Abroad Austria is dedicated to making sure your donation dollars have the greatest impact and help reach the 12,000 Americans living in Austria. Perhaps you saw one of our media outreach efforts in September? We've run a Vote from Abroad trailer on 95 screens around Austria for multiple weeks; we've hung more than 400 posters in cafes and cultural institutes, and on the streets in Vienna; we created the democracy duck tales on Instagram; and we sent three hundred postcards to members who vote in a state with a critical Senate or House race.

These outreach efforts were funded entirely through our donors — thank you! Help us prepare to do even more in the 2028 presidential election. Become a sustaining donor for as little as the cost of a cup of coffee.

Review:

Young Dems

At Young Dems, we’re back in action after our summer hiatus, with a full schedule until (and right after) the election. We’ve organized two  postcard-writing hangouts at a heuriger and a phonebanking party. October is bringing our first purely social event of the fall (pub trivia!) and our second and last phonebanking party, and we'll be doing a post-election celebration and/or commiseration in November.

Twelve people attended our postcard-writing hangout, where we wrote to U.S. voters in Austria, reminding them to request their ballots, and eight joined in for the first phonebanking session.

The upcoming pub trivia social will be on Sunday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m., and the second phonebanking party is on Sunday, October 25, from 2-5 p.m. We'd love to see you there!

Ballots & Beverages

On September 23, we hosted “Ballots & Beverages” to support people returning their midterm ballots and to meet or reconnect after the summer. Over 40 people came with questions and left with an “I Voted” sticker! Our dedicated volunteers helped voters overcome password-protected ballots, complicated folding instructions, and confusing fax apps in hopes of creating a great blue wave on November 3.  Realizing how many other people may have questions and couldn’t make it, we are offering support several more times in the coming weeks—see the dates above!

Solidarity Sundays | Letter-Writing to New Michigan Voters

On Sunday, September 27, we traded talking for writing. Michigan's polling margins are tight across the board, so a handful of new voters getting a personal nudge to the ballot box could swing a critical battleground state. We sat down with pens and wrote to 80 first-time voters in Michigan. No slides, no speeches, just a stack of letters and the chance that one of them is the reason someone shows up on Nov 3.

Don’t forget to register to vote and request your ballot at votefromabroad.org today.

The rules have changed and tightened for many states, and primaries have begun. Go to votefromabroad.org and make it happen. There are people on deck to help if needed.

Thanks for reading!
