Amy Acton Supports Issue 3 ... With Reservations!

Pundits have done the Michigan primary to death and, looking just over their shoulders, see ... "Why, look! There's Ohio! " And luckily for them, news has come out that gubernatorial candidate Acton supports Issue 3, requiring in-person voters to show a photo ID.

This is already a state law, passed by the GOP. Just before summer recess, they also tried to pass a similar measure to extend the ID to mail-in voting, but Gov. DeWine vetoed it as unnecessary. Actually, the in-person law may be, too. After all, registration forms and other sign-in affidavits already say 'Under penalty of law ...' the voter certifies that all information is true. The penalties for lying are stiff. Still, the photo ID has polled favorably with both Democrats and, more so, Republicans.

Enter Amy Acton. She officially supports several measures that state Democrats have stood against. In the case of Issue 3, she insists that as governor, she would fight to make the ID easy to access and free of charge. It should not be a deterrent for some to vote! That would, of course, be easier with a Democrat legislature, but still GOPs would be hard pressed to explain why they made it hard for the elderly, low-income voters and others to exercise their right to vote.
