A Message to Louisiana Voters

Your vote this fall is important to Louisiana! We have a chance to win key elections this year but we need your help. We have several races with candidates that the Louisiana Democratic Party endorses:

  • Tammy Savoie in the 1st Congressional District against Steve Scalise
  • Cedric Richmond in the 2nd Congressional District (incumbent)
  • Mimi Methvin in the 3rd Congressional District against Clay Higgins
  • Ryan Trundle in the 4th Congressional District against Mike Johnson
  • Jessee Fleenor in the 5th Congressional District against Ralph Abraham
  • Justin DeWitt in the 6th Congressional District against Garrett Graves

We also have our Secretary of State race this year on the ballot with Renee Fontenot Free as the endorsed candidate.

Even if you voted from abroad in the past, if you haven't yet requested your ballot this year, you still need to do so to make sure you can vote. Just go to votefromabroad.org, fill in the Federal request form, print, sign and send it in to your local election office here in Louisiana.

On behalf of the Louisiana Democratic Party I thank you for your commitment to voting!

Democratically yours,
Karen Carter Peterson
Louisiana Democratic Party Chairwoman

Your deadlines are coming up. Don't forget:

REGISTER to vote from abroad by Tuesday, October 9. Your registration form will also request your ballot, and may be sent by email, fax or postal mail. You may be eligible* to use the Louisiana Voter Portal at https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/VoterRegistration to register online until Tuesday, October 16. We recommend registering by email or fax.

-or-

REQUEST your overseas absentee ballot by Monday, November 5, 4:30 pm CST. Your request form may be sent by email, fax or postal mail. We recommend sending your request form by email or fax, and having your ballot delivered to you by email/online.

RETURN your ballot to your local election office by fax** or postal mail by Tuesday, November 6, 8pm CST. If mailing your ballot, be sure to send early enough for it to reach Louisiana by the deadline. We recommend mailing your ballot by Monday, October 8.

All overseas voters may vote in Louisiana state and local elections as well as elections for federal offices (US House and US Senate races).

Note: When you fill in your ballot request form, be aware that selecting “I intend to return” rather than “my return is uncertain” may contribute towards establishing yourself as a tax resident in your voting state. Because the legal requirements to establish "residence" or "domicile" for tax purposes are determined by state law and the specific facts of your life, before you note that you intend to return on your form you may consider seeking advice on these matters from your tax professional.

* You must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license number or Louisiana special ID card and an address in Louisiana where you last resided to submit electronically.

** Ballot Return by Fax requires prior arrangement with your election official. DoD Fax Service is for voters who need to send election materials to your election official by fax but do not have access to a fax machine. You can email your form to [email protected] and FVAP (the Federal Voting Assistance Program) will fax your election materials for you.
