October Newsletter

The start of fall certainly hasn’t been dull: September was fraught with the death of our beloved Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the first chaotic debate, and a superspreading event at the White House. And those tax returns! The list goes on… The next few weeks will surely come with their own shocking revelations. But please don’t let the chaos distract us from our single focus: voting!

At this point, it’s all hands on deck! Even Munich Mayor Katrin Habenschaden swung by our stand this weekend to help spread the word:

We hope you’ve already requested your ballot and voted! If you haven’t, go to www.votefromabroad.org, and once you’ve got your ballot, return it immediately! If you have voting questions, we’re here to help. You can find all resources, including links to one-on-one online help sessions and info on a FedEx return special, at www.democratsabroad.org/vote_from_germany. You’re also welcome to submit your question here.

If you have voted, please let us know by clicking “I’ve sent in my ballot” link at the end of this email. And don’t forget to request your free physical “I Voted from Germany” sticker, or use this digital version right away:

Help Needed!

Voter Assistance Tables

Things are getting down to the wire, but we’re still working hard to find new voters from states that have longer deadlines. Do you have time to help us at a table in October? Sign up here.

Phonebanking

Standing outside is not your thing? Try helping people with their ballots by phonebanking from the warmth of your own home! All you need is a computer and internet connection. We have scripts ready to go, and it’s free to use. This is a group effort that has reached thousands of Democrats across the world! Get started at www.democratsabroad.org/phonebanking. We even have a live online training happening today: October 12, 6:00pm.

For a full list of ways you can help besides stands downtown and phonebanking, visit https://www.democratsabroad.org/de_help2020

Calendar

Pumpkin Carving

October 17 — 2:00pm

EineWeltHaus — Schwanthalerstrasse 80 80336 Munich

A bit behind on your pumpkin carving? Join fellow Americans to carve your favorite pumpkin faces. A chance to debrief on what is happening in our country. Please RSVP so we can estimate the amount of pumpkins we need. Pumpkins will be provided. We are asking for a €15 donation, which you can pay at the event. RSVP here.

Biden-Harris Online Rally

October 18 — 3:00pm

Online

Are you fired up and ready to put Joe and Kamala in the White House?! So are we! On Sunday, October 18, Democrats Abroad Germany is hosting an online Biden-Harris rally to keep our spirits high in these critical last few weeks. We'll look back at all the passionate resistance in Germany over the past four years, hear from politicians and activists, and sing along to the music of talented songwriters like Alfred McCrary, a Frankfurt local who recently composed "Ridin' with Biden". Join us as we bring this thing home! RSVP here.

A Retrospective of America

October 21 — 7:00pm

Online

Markus Treml, a photographer from Munich, is close friends with Sebastian, who spent time with his uncle in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a child. On a whim, Markus and Sebastian went and explored what the South currently looks like. The result: a beautiful black and white photo calendar of some beautiful places. Treml says "Our goal is to show you the beauty of your own country through our German lens. It is an attempt to bring us all back – and hopefully closer together." Come share some of your stories from home. RSVP here.

“The Day After” Luncheon

November 4 — 12:00pm

Location TBD

In the past, hundreds of us would have stayed up all night and waited for the election results. But that is simply not possible this year because of Covid. An hour or two in a room at a restaurant, taking all precautions, however, might be possible. But it is hard to say where things will stand in a few weeks.

If you are interested in attending a luncheon on November 4, please RSVP. Seating is limited, so please let us know sooner rather than later if you’d like a spot. We will let you know by November 1 if the event will take place.

If there is no chance of us meeting in person, we will switch to Zoom for a post-election debrief.

Biden-Harris Gear

And don’t forget to get your Biden-Harris and DA gear for the rally and election night! Shirts are going fast, so if you’d like one, please order soon. All proceeds go exclusively to covering the costs of our voter outreach efforts!

Order here

As always, thanks for your continued support and commitment to getting Democrats elected. We look forward to having you join us at one of our many upcoming events!

Yours,

Emily Froemel
