FWAB Practice Workshop: Helping Voters Use Their Backup Ballot
Get comfortable assisting voters with the FWAB!
This is a supportive, practical session designed to help Voter Assistants become more confident using a FWAB themselves and assisting voters with one when needed. It is for Democrats Abroad Voter Assistants in Italy (and beyond!) who have already completed the training Module 3: Backup Ballots (FWAB) and would like practice, and to help others practice, assisting voters with the BackUp Ballot (FWAB).
The Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot, commonly called the FWAB, is an important option for overseas voters who have requested an absentee ballot but think it may not arrive in time to be returned by their state’s deadline. It is not a replacement for the voter’s regular ballot request, it is a back up! The details vary by state.
In this interactive workshop, we will:
- Ada Shen - GOTV Coordinator for the EMEA Region will review core FWAB information and
- Review the situations in which a BackUp Ballot (FWAB) may be appropriate.
- Practice explaining the FWAB clearly and reassuringly to voters.
- Work through sample voter scenarios together.
- Review how to help a voter find their state-specific FWAB and ballot-return requirements.
- Discuss common questions, potential pitfalls, and when to refer a voter to additional support.
- Toast to Voting and to ourselves for our efforts!
Our goal is for Voter Assistants to feel well informed and comfortable in helping voters with the FWAB.
