Under Siege: The Many Threats to a Free Press

We’re thrilled to announce our Democrats Abroad Italy Speaker Series – an interactive platform for community engagement where we will hear from influential voices, stay connected, and empower action as we head toward the 2026 elections.

To kick off the series, we are excited to welcome Alexander Stille, journalist, author, and professor of international journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, who will discuss a range of serious threats to freedom of the press in the U.S. which include:

  • Traditional media weakened by the digital revolution
  • The shift toward social media where traditional norms and rules of truth and accuracy are
    largely absent
  • The full-on assault of the Trump Administration targeting the press, data, education, and
    science

We hope you will join us to hear Alexander Stille share his unique perspective on the current position of the U.S. press which has never been more desperate – or more vital.

Free and open to all. Join us!

If you would like to submit a question to Alexander Stille in advance, please send it to: [email protected]
