Demand Congress Act - Silencing Senator Padilla is an attack on us all

Today in Los Angeles, Senator Alex Padilla — the senior U.S. Senator from California — was forcibly removed from a public press conference, thrown to the ground, and handcuffed while trying to ask questions about the Trump administration’s latest immigration enforcement actions.

He identified himself. He was peaceful. And yet federal agents silenced him, physically removed him, and restrained him for doing his job: seeking answers and representing his constituents.

This is not just about one Senator. This is about silencing an elected representative, undermining freedom of speech, and violating the rights of millions of Americans — including all of us who depend on our elected officials to represent our voices.

This is a direct assault on American democracy.

We cannot let this stand. We need every member of Congress to speak out — now.

CALL SCRIPT:
Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a constituent of [SEN/REP] who votes at [CITY].

I’m outraged by the way Senator Alex Padilla was treated in California yesterday.

This isn’t just about disrespecting one senator. This is about silencing an elected representative, undermining freedom of speech, and violating the rights of millions of Americans.

I am asking [Senator/Representative NAME] to:

  • Speak out publicly and forcefully against what happened.
  • Demand an immediate investigation and appropriate charges against those responsible.
  • Defend the rights of every American to be represented and heard.
  • Protect the integrity of our democratic institutions and uphold the freedom of speech that is core to our democracy.

Silence is complicity. I expect [him/her/them] to act immediately.

Every call matters. Every voice counts.

Democracy is only as strong as our willingness to defend it.

Thank you for taking action.
