Statement on ICE Shootings

Democrats Abroad condemns the recent shootings in Minneapolis and Portland involving ICE agents. These incidents mark a deeply alarming escalation in the federal government’s use of force against civilians and raise urgent questions about accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.

The United States is a nation governed by laws, not by intimidation or unchecked violence. No agency is above constitutional limits, and no administration has the right to redefine lethal force as routine enforcement. When federal officials misrepresent events, attack witnesses, or label civilians as “terrorists” without evidence, they erode the very foundations of democracy.

Democrats Abroad stands in solidarity with  people across the country in calling for full, independent investigations into both shootings, the immediate suspension of ICE operations where civilian harm has occurred, and clear accountability for any violations of law or civil rights.
