GA Abroad Kick-Off Event: John Lewis Birthday Celebration with Rep. Nikema Williams
All eyes are on the next battleground states as Democrats gear up for the fight ahead in 2022, and that includes Georgia!
John Lewis said that “the right to vote is precious, almost sacred." To honor the occasion of his birthday on February 21st, you're invited to a conversation with Rep. Nikema Williams, John Lewis’ successor in Congress, and Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia as we kick-off the DA Georgia State Team!
Rep. Williams will speak about the current Georgian political landscape and how we can make a difference in Georgia in the 2022 Midterm Elections which will decide several key races in Georgia, including races for Governor, Secretary of State and Senator Warnock's seat. The best way to honor John Lewis’ legacy is by exercising your right to vote. American citizens can vote wherever they are - abroad and at home - spread the word!
Joining Rep. Williams will be Sarah Riggs Amico, former Lt. Governor candidate alongside Stacey Abrams, as well as Eddie Aviles, National Committeeman, Young Democrats of Georgia. The event will be co-hosted by the Global Black Caucus and the Global Youth Caucus.

Rep. Nikema Williams has been the Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia since 2019, becoming the first Black woman, the third woman, and second African American to chair the party. Nikema comes from a family of activist organizers and is the first woman to represent Georgia’s 5th district, taking the mantle from civil rights icon and her mentor, John Lewis.
In 2012, Nikema supported Barack Obama's presidential campaigns, serving as a member of the Obama Victory Fund, and was recognized as one of Obama's top bundlers during that campaign cycle. While working across the country, Nikema has always remained connected to her Georgia roots. As a Member of Congress, Congresswoman Williams continues to uplift the legacy of her mentor and predecessor, Congressman John Lewis, by fighting to prevent voter suppression and expand free and fair access to the ballot box.
