The process of voting from abroad can be confusing. We want to make it easier and encourage all US citizens living abroad to VOTE.

Could you or someone you know use some help in answering the questions below? Then this event is for you!

  • How do I request my ballot as an overseas voter?
  • What if I don’t have a US address?
  • Do I need to register to vote?
  • What special protections do I get as an overseas voter?
  • What can I do to ensure I get a ballot?
  • How do I send back my ballot?
  • How do I check to see if my ballot has been received and counted?
  • Can I get help from a friend or family member?
  • Where can I get assistance if I have questions or problems along the way?
  • Where can I go to get valid information on candidates and issues?

And more

VoteFromAbroad.org provides every US citizen abroad with the information and tools needed to VOTE. As a public service provided by Democrats Abroad, the service is available to all overseas US voters regardless of party affiliation. Our online tool, with available accessibility tools, makes it simple to fill out and send in the federal form needed to register to vote and to request your overseas ballot.

Heidi Burch and her team of volunteers at VoteFromAbroad.org and Democrats Abroad provide in-depth and personal support to US citizens living abroad to request, receive, and return their ballots to vote in US elections - both at the Federal and State level.

Heidi Burch

Heidi BurchHeidi Burch is the Democrats Abroad Global Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Coordinator. In this position, she and the rest of the GOTV team of volunteers work to raise awareness among US citizens living outside the US that they have a right to vote in US elections, what they need to do to vote, and the importance of voting in every election and for every office they are eligible to vote in. Heidi's additional responsibilities as the VoteFromAbroad Coordinator and as Voting Assistance Coordinator focus on providing overseas voters with the support they need to register to vote, request their overseas absentee ballots, and to help them overcome any voting issues so that their ballots will ultimately be counted. A native of Washington DC, Heidi votes in San Francisco, California, where she was a practicing attorney before retiring. She has lived in Canada for 20 years, initially in Victoria, BC, and currently lives near Toronto, Canada.
