On January 26, 2020, I was lucky enough to host(ess) a meeting of the Women and the Environment group of Democrats Abroad France.
The three women scientists, experts in their fields, shared their scientific work with the audience in a talk titled: Is Climate Change a Gender Issue? Alyssa Fischer’s work discusses climate and sustainability, focusing on urban climate challenges and the inclusion of equity into climate conversations. Dr. Cara Maesano is a scientist and researcher in environmental epidemiology and exposure science at INSERM/Sorbonne University. Our Climate Action Team will have two missions
SUPPORT GREEN CANDIDATES
- We will identify and support pro-environment Democrat candidates during the 2020 election season while providing information to our members on climate-friendly policy proposals and legislation.
SUPPORT GREEN LIFESTYLE
- We will educate our members on how and why women are the key to finding solutions to the climate crisis, and provide information on things we can do as individuals to promote a green “lifestyle”
Our Goals for 2020
- Through communications, hosting online events, providing educational “live-event” tool kits and partnering with large global climate action organizations, we will raise awareness of the climate crisis and how womenin particularcan play a role in finding solutions.
- Our overarching goal will be to connect this heightened awareness with the crucial need for Americans living abroad toregister to vote in order to propel a “green wave” of new leaders into power on election day. “You want Green? Vote Blue!”
