Living in India for 20 years has shown me the dangers of allowing “small-d” democratic values to wither.
That’s why I’m a Democrat. Our party is one of the last redoubts for voices promoting pluralism and tolerance.
Back in Michigan I’ve knocked doors for my representative, Rashida Tlaib, as well as for senate, gubernatorial and presidential candidates.
But in 2020 I was skeptical about Joe Biden’s candidacy. I thought the old guy was out of step. Instead he became the most progressive president of my lifetime, strengthening labor rights and paving the way for green investments to win America’s future and save the planet.
I was delighted to be proven wrong, and I support Joe Biden with the hope that he will rise to the present occasion by upholding America’s humanitarian ideals across the globe. That is the hope we embody as Americans Abroad.
