The Balkans Regional Group is excited to host a conversation with Commissioner Thomas Hicks, a nationally recognized election expert and former Chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC). 

Commissioner Hicks served on the EAC from 2015–2026 after being nominated by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. During his tenure, he worked to expand voter access, strengthen election administration, and support safe, secure, and accurate elections. He also helped update voting system guidelines and expand training and resources for election officials. 

Prior to joining the EAC, Mr. Hicks held senior positions with the U.S. House Committee on House Administration, where he worked on campaign finance, election reform, contested elections, and oversight of federal election agencies. He holds a J.D. from Catholic University of America and a B.A. in Government from Clark University. 

Join us for an engaging conversation about the upcoming U.S. elections, voting from abroad, and the vital role of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission in protecting our elections, and why dismantling it could have serious consequences for voters across the country.
