A citizen of both the U.S. and Australia, Bruce is currently a Senior Fellow at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney and a regular contributor on U.S. politics across media platforms in Australia.
In the U.S., he served as a senior aide to Rep. Henry Waxman, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee during the Obama administration, with firsthand experience of the passage of Obamacare. In Australia, he served as a staff member and Chief of Staff for Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
He is the author of Trump’s Australia (2023), What Trump’s Second Term Means for Australia (2025), The Committee (2018) about Obama’s legislative program, and Lobbying Congress: How the System Works (1990, 1996).
