No Dictators Day - Global Day of Defiance

Please join DAN members and others in Oslo on Saturday, June 14 in a global day of defiance and solidarity against authoritarianism. We’ll be gathering at the Abraham Lincoln statue in Frogner Park from noon to 2pm (12:00-14:00) for silent as well as vocal protest. We’re calling it No Dictators Day – our counter-birthday party for Donald Trump, in conjunction with hundreds of similar events in the U.S. and around the world. Bring your friends and family, and above all bring your enthusiasm, your voice (since there will be singing)  and your matpakke (since it will be lunchtime).

We’ll celebrate the eloquence and achievements of perhaps our greatest president in comparison to the failures and absurdities of a self-congratulatory would-be monarch who fawns over his own birthday with an unnecessary and ridiculously expensive military parade. Americans revere our 16th president as much for the lofty, hopeful rhetoric of what he wrote and said, as for his signal accomplishments: the preservation of the Union and his more prosaic yet powerful proclamation that slaves shall henceforth be free.

But Lincoln could never have predicted our 45th and 47th president’s lust for power and his acolytes in Congress’ kowtowing to his every whim.

It’s up to us to listen to Abe on Flag Day, to appeal to the better angels of our nature and to help stop the wickedness and folly. Join us in Frognerparken on June 14.
