A change is on the horizon and so is a new generation of voters. On March 24th, hundreds of thousands of students and concerned citizens came together at one of the 830 March For Our Lives events held worldwide. Take a look at the photos of our solidarity events held by our chapters in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Munich, and Wiesbaden-Mainz. Our marches were featured on the New York Times and the Berlin Youth Caucus Coordinator, Chris Sauca, was profiled by KCRW Berlin about his participation in the march.

Thank you to everyone who attended an event or participated in the Democrats Abroad Virtual March. We hope these marches were a wake-up call for our politicians, but as primary season gets under way, it’s important that we make sure all those living abroad know that they can and should vote. We need an assault weapons ban and we need to show our elected officials that we will no longer accept their lack of action by voting in the elections this year and electing those that will make change! Enough is enough!

Voting and Election Information

The first two Primaries - in Texas and Illinois - are already behind us, and May is full of primaries.

Tue May 15 Idaho,  Nebraska,  Oregon,  Pennsylvania

Primary Elections FAQ Most people may see November as the month for elections, but we see voting as a 12-month effort. The primaries have already started (they started on March 6 in Texas!), so it’s time to be sure you’re ready to go. Click on the link to find answers to some  FAQs that may be helpful for those who haven’t yet requested their ballots for 2018.

Arizona 8th Congressional District Special Election, April 24th, is the next date to mark on your Calendar

Voters in Maricopa County, Arizona: show your resistance to Trump and the Republican agenda. Democrat Hiral Tipirneni, (pronounced “he-rul” “tipper-nen-i”) is poised to flip this seat in a heavily Republican District. All overseas voters in Arizona's 8th Congressional District can vote in this Federal election.

Your vote can be the difference! Democratic Rep. Conor Lamb just won in a heavily Republican district in Pennsylvania by only 627 votes. This was a stunning 20-point swing, and we can do it again in Arizona. You can always use Votefromabroad.org to register to vote and/or request your ballot.

Specific things to know about the Arizona US House District 8 Special Election:

  • Voters who are not registered to vote must send in their form to Register to Vote, and that will also be seen as your request for a ballot for this Special Election--as well as all other 2018 Elections. The form can be sent in by EMAIL, FAX or MAIL and must arrive  by Monday, March 26th.
  • Voters who are already registered to vote must send in their forms to Request a Ballot. The ballot request form will cover ALL elections in 2018, not just this Special Election.  Voters can send in their form by EMAIL, FAX or MAIL and it must get to Arizona by Friday, April 13th.
  • Ballots may be returned by EMAIL, FAX, MAIL or Online upload. Completed ballots must be RECEIVED in Arizona by Tuesday, April 24th at 7pm (Arizona time).

Not an Arizona voter, but you know that the Special Election on April 24th may be hard to win? You can help by voluntering for Phonebanking! It’s easy and rewarding - together we can election Democrats!

ICYMI: Watch Democrats Abroad LGBT Caucus Global Town Hall with Earl Fowlkes, Chair of the LGBT Caucus of the Democratic National Committee, as he speaks about the issues facing the LGBTQIA community under the current Administration, and how the Democratic Party is addressing those issues and mobilizing the community to get out the vote in 2018.

Taxes Our new campaign for American business owners abroad to protest new taxes in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that will badly harm them. If you're an American living abroad who owns a business the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has a nasty little surprise for you: Two NEW TAXES!! It's a big policy blunder - funny how that happens when you draft bills without due consideration, in isolation and at blinding speed! - that Congress won't fix unless you demand it. Here's how.

ICYMI: Watch the Global Black Caucus’s Women's History Month webinar "Black Women and Activism". Nicole Pearson, from our Madrid, Spain chapter, reprises and expands the presentation she gave at this years EMEA conference.

Midterm Elections FAQ Midterm elections may not take place until November 6, but for voters abroad, the time to request a ballot is now. This year, America will elect 435 House of Representatives, 34 Senators, 36 Governors, thousands of others to state and local positions, and decide the outcome of critical issues on some ballots as well. In many cases, votes from abroad will be THE margin of victory, which means it's more important than ever to ensure your vote is counted. Unsure about your voter status? Wondering when to expect a ballot? We’ve got you covered.
