If you’ve been paying attention lately, you may have noticed that the folks in charge seem less interested in running the country than in running distractions. Discrimination, gender wars, immigration panic — all tossed like shiny confetti in front of our eyes. Meanwhile, the real fireworks — climate collapse, vanishing drinking water, the rise of disease, and a dangerously simmering public discontent — are shoved into the corner like an unwanted cousin at Thanksgiving.
And who’s choreographing this circus? Why, the GOP, of course — which, depending on the day, seems to stand for:
- Generally Odd Personalities (you couldn’t cast a stranger reality show if you tried).
- Greatly Out of Position (seriously, whose team are they even playing on?).
- Greed Over Planet (the only green they’re interested in comes with dollar signs).
- Gaslight, Obstruct, Pretend (the three pillars of modern governance).
- Grumpy Old Playbook (spoiler: it’s the same script, just angrier).
So while they argue over bathrooms, borders, and ballrooms, the planet is literally on fire, the Constitution is going up in flames — WTF (What the Flames…though you know the other version too) — and the working class has been kicked in the…well, let’s just say it rhymes.
And to add insult to injury, the Greed Over Planet gang, together with the other Generally Odd Personalities, decided to dust off their Grumpy Old Playbook and shut down the government while continuing to Gaslight, Obstruct, and Pretend it’s not completely their doing.
ICYMI (In Case You Missed It), that means real people don’t get paid, programs stall, and democracy gets shoved onto the back burner so that partisan theater can hog the spotlight. SMH (Shaking My Head).
