Position Overview
Democrats Abroad (DA) is seeking dedicated and collaborative Home State Leads to join the Home States Team.
The Home States Team is a global team of volunteers who focus on specific U.S. states. Home State Leads are valuable resources for topics such as breaking news on legislation and litigation, issues affecting citizens abroad, and state-specific voting processes not covered by VFA and FVAP.
Home State Leads are supported by the Home States Coordinator, who is responsible for ensuring that the team’s efforts are impactful and help fulfill DA’s strategic goals to mobilize voters, expand the electorate, and win elections.
The Home States team operates in alignment with the governance structures and electoral cycles of Democrats Abroad and the Democratic Party.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Track and provide relevant updates on state legislation and litigation.

Propose and support stateside outreach strategies aimed at increasing voter turnout and overseas voter awareness.

Participate actively on the Voter Assistance help desk.

Develop toolkits for local engagement events and voter outreach.

Produce and share action alerts in coordination with the Comms team.

Contribute state-specific messaging and content to opt-in emails.

Attend regular check-ins (at least monthly), as well as briefings and training sessions for Home State Leads to keep them updated and aligned with DA priorities.

Share the VFA Comms toolkit with candidates and stateside organizations.

Report voter protection issues to the DA Voter Protection Director.

Organize gatherings of opt-in affinity groups when needed.
Agreements and Protocols

All communications or collaboration with state or local Democratic Party officials, candidates, or external organizations must be pre-approved by the Home States Coordinator and the DA Chair.

Volunteers must follow DA’s Charter, Code of Conduct, Volunteer Norms, and Communications Guidelines.

Volunteers must sign the Democrats Abroad Confidentiality Agreement and Volunteer Norms.
Qualifications

Strong interest in U.S. state politics and overseas voter engagement

Demonstrated coordination skills

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders

Organized, proactive, and responsive to deadlines

Familiarity with Democrats Abroad or political/advocacy volunteer experience a plus
- Must be an active DA member, living abroad
