Message from the Chair

DA Austria goes to Washington! The four voting representatives of DA Austria are heading to Washington D.C. for the June 9 - 11 global meeting of Democrats Abroad (no perks here, we all pay our own way). This is the first in-person meeting since before the pandemic and I am particularly looking forward to meeting fellow DA leaders around the globe whom I have only interacted with virtually. I imagine we’ll get to hear from some Democratic Party leaders about how they are gearing up for 2024. (Read more below about what will take place at the meeting). Most of all, I believe it will be an inspiring experience where we can learn from other members and forge relationships that will help us work more effectively, especially as we prepare for 2024.

— Richard Miller, DA Austria Chair

Inside DA Austria:

Pride Parade - call for support!

Every year, DA Austria has shown its pride by marching in the Vienna Pride Parade, this year being held on Saturday, June 17. We are looking for someone to step in to organize a watch party along the parade route!

If interested, please send an email to [email protected].

Open Caucus and Committee Positions

We are searching for people to lead some of our caucuses, namely the Youth Caucus, AAPI Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, and LGBTQ+ Caucus. If you have questions about leading a caucus, please reach out. You can also read about all our volunteer positions here.

— Richard Miller, DA Austria Chair

2023 State Voting Information

Do you vote in KENTUCKY, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, NEW JERSEY, PENNSYLVANIA, VIRGINIA or WISCONSIN?

Check out this critical information about voting in your state's elections. Republicans are targeting state and local legislators to enact major changes. Be heard and vote down ballot!

New Jersey Voting Rights Update

Our votes from abroad can be the margin of victory in local, statewide and federal elections.

New Jersey voters have a high stake in the November 7, 2023 State and Local Elections. Thanks to volunteers at Democrats Abroad, our voting rights bill A3929/S2899 was signed into law. This allows overseas voters whose return to New Jersey is uncertain to vote in state elections (citizens who mark 'My return is uncertain' on the Federal Post Card Application).

Annual Global Meeting and Elections

DA Global Holds Annual Meeting in Washington, DC

Democrats Abroad holds it Annual Global Meeting in Washington, D.C. in June. Members start to gather beforehand on Thursday, June 7, to meet with members of Congress to raise awareness of issues that are important to US citizens living abroad. The official DA meeting is Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, with the highlights being electing new leadership, both on the international and regional level. We will hear international and regional committee leaders present reports, vote on various resolutions, as well as hear from panelists on ways to maximize our fundraising efforts. This will be our second global meeting of the year, with the first taking place online on April 22. There, we approved the DPCA Delegate Selection Plan which governs the process of how Democrats Abroad will select delegates for next year’s Democratic Convention.

2023 Global & Regional Meetings Information

Join your Democrats abroad elected representatives online or in Washington D.C. for DA's Annual Global Meeting on June 10 and 11. If you'll be in D.C., please join us as we make "doorknock" visits to congressional offices to discuss issues that affect Americans living overseas—especially The Commission on Americans Living Abroad Bill. Or join us for a gala evening with a special guest speaker at the historic Whittemore House on Saturday evening. All members and friends of Democrats Abroad are warmly welcome to attend!

The 2023 Annual Global Meeting and EMEA Regional Meeting will take place online and in person on the weekend of June 9–11 in Washington D.C. All DA members may attend the meetings or join the Gala dinner on Saturday, June 10.

The EMEA Regional Meeting will take place from 9-10:00 a.m. (3-4:00 p.m. in Vienna) on Sunday, June 11. The only order of business is for the election of the 2023–2025 EMEA Regional Vice Chair. A candidate forum will be held at 5pm (Vienna) on May 31, 2023 online.

During the global meeting, DPCA (Democratic Party Committee Abroad) voting representatives elected at the county committee level (four from Austria) will elect the International Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Legal Counsel. These individuals will lead Democrats Abroad for the next two years, guiding and supporting all of our leaders, volunteers, and members around the world. Chairs, Vice Chairs, and DPCA Voting representatives of compliant country committees of Democrats Abroad may vote.

The agenda, candidate list, proposed resolutions, and link to RSVP for the meetings will be included in the May newsletter.
