Annual General Meeting!

Special Guest Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, Pennsylvania General Assembly and Vice Chair, Democratic National Committee, will join us in Schladern!

 

Join us in Windeck for our Annual General Meeting from Friday, March 28th to Sunday, March 30th to get involved with Democrats Abroad Germany and contribute to our plan for 2025. The meeting will be hosted by the Cologne-Bonn Chapter.

Schedule of Events

Friday, March 28

Arrive in the afternoon and gather together for an informal pizza dinner at the Chapter Chair's house in the evening. RSVP here.

Saturday, March 29

The main meeting will take place on Saturday at an event location called Kabelmetal. It will be a hybrid event, so that as many members of DA Germany can participate and help us develop our plan of action for getting out the vote in 2025.

This meeting will be focused on looking ahead and what we want to focus on in the coming years. We will address the questions: What should be our priorities? What are our members most concerned about? What does “resistance” mean? This meeting will be an opportunity to have open discussions and help shape DA Germany. In addition, we will announce the newly elected DA Germany leadership. To participate in the elections, which will be held from March 11 to March 23. You can find information on how to run for a position and vote here.

The meeting will include a session led by Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta.

That evening, join us for dinner at Kabelmetal, to further collaborate and network across all DA Germany chapters

Sunday, March 30 - DA Germany ExCom Meeting & other activities

Members of the DA Germany Executive Committee will meet for a leadership meeting. For other attendees, you have the opportunity to participate in a tour of the area. Options are provided in the participant form we ask in-person attendees to fill out, after you RSVP to the meeting.

The Ex Com meeting will include a Mindfulness Workshop led by Adrianne George (see details below).

Following the tour and/or the leadership meeting, everyone is welcome to meet at the Cologne-Bonn Chair's house for lunch before heading back home.

Speakers

Special Guest Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta

Pennsylvania General Assembly and Vice Chair, Democratic National Committee

Representative Malcolm Kenyatta is a third-generation North Philadelphia native and legislator currently
serving in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. He earned a B.A. in Public Communications and a minor in
Political Science from Temple University, an M.S. in Strategic and Digital Communications from Drexel
University, and completed the Harvard Kennedy School’s Executives in State and Local Government program.

In 2023, he was appointed by President Joe Biden to chair the Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.

Representative Kenyatta is a barrier-breaking public figure, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color and one of the youngest people elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2018. In 2022, he became the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color to seek a U.S. Senate seat in American history. In April 2024, he made history again as the first openly LGBTQ+ person ever nominated for statewide office by a major political party in Pennsylvania when he became the Democratic nominee for Auditor General. In the general election, he earned nearly 3.1 million votes, the second-highest vote total for any Democrat on the ticket that year. In February 2025 he was elected as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Throughout his career, Representative Kenyatta has been a vocal proponent of protecting workers’ rights and rooting out government corruption and waste. He holds multiple legislative leadership roles, including as a member of the powerful State Government Committee with oversight of state agencies and elections, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Government Operations; Chair of the Financial Services and Banking Subcommittee in the Commerce Committee; and as a member of the Finance and Judiciary Committees.

In 2020, he was chosen to give the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention alongside a group of other ‘Rising Stars,’ and in 2024, he returned to the DNC as an individual speaker, continuing to represent the next generation of Democratic leadership. His groundbreaking political career and personal life have been the subject of two award-winning documentaries, including an Al Roker-produced feature-length film, Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn.

Representative Kenyatta lives in North Philadelphia with his husband, Dr. Matthew Kenyatta, and their dog, Cleo.

 

Martha McDevitt-Pugh

International Chair of Democrats Abroad

Martha McDevitt-Pugh is the International Chair of Democrats Abroad, the Democratic state party for the six million Americans who live abroad. Martha serves on the board of the DNC LGBTQ Caucus and is the founding Chair of the Democrats Abroad LGBTQ+ Caucus. She previously served as Chair of Democrats Abroad Netherlands (2011-2015), DNC Representative (2016-2023) and was an elected delegate for President Obama at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. In 2001, she and her wife Lin were among the first same-sex couples in the world to legally marry. Martha is a registered voter in Alameda County, educated at the University of California at Davis, with a B.A. from Hampshire College.

 

Adrianne George

In the ExCom meeting on Sunday, Adrianne George will lead us in a "Mindfulness Workshop." This session will offer practical mindfulness tools—breathwork, gentle movement, affirmations, and journaling—to help members of Democrats Abroad Germany stay grounded, manage stress, and sustain their efforts for change. The practices are simple and accessible and can be woven into daily life.

 

Cost

Under the rules of the Democratic Party and Democrats Abroad, a fee for attending the meeting is not allowed.

However, we are requesting donations to defray the cost of renting the venue and A/V set up for the virtual meeting format. Once you RSVP below, you will be directed to a page, where you can contribute towards these costs.

There are costs associated with food and beverages offered during the Saturday meeting and dinner, and you can also choose a catering package on the same tickets page.
