This week, Statehouse Republicans chose to sneak SB 156 language into SB 276.
Legislators turned SB 276 into a “Christmas Tree bill” by throwing multiple bills into it, an underhanded move that’s actually unconstitutional in Ohio.
SB 276 now heads to Governor DeWine for his signature.
- Requires teaching that aligns with the "success sequence"
- Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) must review and maintain list of curriculum and resources for grades 6 to 12 about the success sequence
- Curriculum or resources on DEW’s list must describe the positive personal and societal outcomes associated with the success sequence
- Every local school board must provide instruction that is aligned with the success sequence
- Every school district must include success sequence instruction in one or more courses offered under Ohio law ORC 3313.603
- Unlike SB 156, this language does NOT allow parents to opt-out
- Authorizes contracts with transportation network companies
- Requires DEW to study the creation of a single statewide hybrid assessment system
- Specifies what the national exam required for massage therapists in member states may include
- Allows military members or their spouses to satisfy compact requirements by graduating from an educational program that meets the minimum qualifications for licensure in their home state.
Includes parts of the Student Athlete Mobility Act (HB 625)
