Please join us for DA Madrid's Annual General Meeting (AGM)!
Date: Sunday, June 21
Time: 6-8pm
Location: Leaves Restaurant - Plaza de Manuel Becerra 12, 1st floor
Hear from chapter leadership about what we've collectively accomplished this past year and learn about ways to get involved as we approach the crucial midterm elections this November!
We'll also have a special guest speaker - Jason Xidias - discussing What Happened in Hungary? Lessons from the Rise, Consolidation, and Fall of Viktor Orbán.
Using Hungary as a case study, Jason will explore how democratic systems can be reshaped from within—through legal changes, growing control over institutions and media, and the concentration of political power—and how these dynamics were ultimately challenged. It highlights broader patterns of democratic backsliding and resistance, and what the Hungarian case reveals about similar pressures in other democracies today.
Jason Xidias is a Lecturer in Political Science and International Relations at New York University Madrid and the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas–ICADE. He holds a Ph.D. in European Politics from King’s College London and has also worked as an international politics journalist. His research focuses on American, Spanish, and European politics, with an emphasis on the far right and democratic erosion.
We look forward to seeing you for an engaging afternoon of political discussion and community! Light snacks will be provided. All are welcome, regardless of whether you've ever attended a DA Madrid event!
