Many local, everyday problems are climate problems with local and actionable solutions. Potholes, flooded subways, flooded intersections, sweltering upper floors, rancid air quality — all these and plenty more are climate problems that can be solved through local political engagement. Often this kind of engagement starts with simply noticing such things in your everyday life. Journalist Colin Daileda will talk about how to pay attention to your surroundings in a climate context, and what to do from there, illustrated with a few stories of his own.
Colin Daileda is a freelance journalist based in Bengaluru, India. His reporting, essays and photography have been published in The Atlantic, Atlas Obscura, The Baffler, Deadspin (RIP), Defector, Earth Island Journal, Fifty Two, Hidden Compass, Longreads, Popula, Reuters, The News Minute, The Washington Post, and others.
Colin’s freelancing has taken him from the cratered roads of the Himalayas up north, down to the flat lagoons of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He spends a lot of time running, though he would often prefer to be playing basketball or eating a doughnut.
He writes a newsletter about the strangeness of climate change in everyday life. It’s free, and you can subscribe right here.
