ActBlue Policy Update & What it Means For Your Giving

UPDATE:

From now until the end of December 2025, you can make a gift to Democrats Abroad Germany as part of our Giving Tuesday campaign.

Until 2025, US citizens living abroad were able to make political donations to US political candidates and organizations through the site actblue.com, the primary fundraising platform for Democratic causes. Then, President Trump signed a memo in April 2025, specifically directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate ActBlue and accusing the platform of violating FEC regulations. No proof was ever provided for these baseless allegations, but as a response, ActBlue made changes to its policies, and now requires Americans living abroad to be physically present in the United States to make a contribution, despite the fact that campaign finance laws do allow citizens to contribute to campaigns while living abroad.

For us as Democrats living in Germany, this restriction essentially makes it nearly impossible for us to donate directly to most Democratic campaigns and many political causes and organizations which we have supported in the past.

Now more than ever, you can support getting the vote out among fellow Americans abroad by donating directly to Democrats Abroad Germany.

Every dollar of every gift made to democratsabroad.org/de_donate remains right here in Germany, where it is used for our outreach efforts, including phonebanking and postcarding campaigns, print and online advertising, tabling permits for German cities, informational materials, and much more. Dollar for dollar, you get the most bang for your buck donating to an organization like ours with a solid foundation of volunteers and expertise in place.

Recurring donations to Democrats Abroad Germany are especially important, since they provide us with greater planning certainty heading into the 2026 midterm elections. Please consider becoming a sustaining donor.

Democrats Abroad Germany accepts donations from US citizens, wherever they live, so people living stateside can also support our efforts, in case your friends and family at home would like to help us get out the vote for Democrats up and down the ballots.
