The U.S. Senate will shortly begin considering Donald Trump's nomination of his former personal attorney, Todd Blanche, to serve as Attorney General of the United States. Hearings begin Wednesday, July 15th at 9am Eastern.
The Department of Justice oversees federal law enforcement, including the FBI, and must remain independent from political pressure. Americans deserve an Attorney General whose primary loyalty is to the rule of law, not to any individual president.
Todd Blanche previously served as Donald Trump's personal defense attorney and has continued to play a central role in Trump's legal and political operations. His close personal and professional relationship with the president raises serious concerns about whether he can lead the Department of Justice with the independence and impartiality the position requires.
Those concerns have only grown during Blanche's tenure as Acting Attorney General. A federal judge recently ruled that the Department of Justice violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act, concluding that the Attorney General had conceded the department was not complying with the law. The court ordered the Justice Department either to release additional information or provide a more detailed legal justification for withholding it. While the underlying files contain allegations that have not been independently verified, the case has raised broader questions about transparency, accountability, and the public's right to information under federal law.
The Senate has a constitutional responsibility to ensure that nominees entrusted with enforcing the nation's laws can serve independently and without conflicts that undermine public confidence in our justice system.

Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a constituent who votes in [CITY/STATE].
I am calling to urge [SENATOR NAME] to vote NO on the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
The Attorney General must serve the American people, not the president personally. Todd Blanche's years as Donald Trump's personal attorney, together with recent concerns about transparency and compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act while serving as Acting Attorney General, have undermined confidence that he can lead the Department of Justice independently.
Our country needs an Attorney General committed to the rule of law, transparency, and equal justice. Please oppose his confirmation.
Thank you.
What Dem Leaders are Saying
“Todd Blanche is not qualified to be the Deputy Attorney General, the Acting Attorney General and he certainly is not qualified to be the United States Attorney General. The role of that particular position is to serve as the people’s lawyer. Todd Blanche has been acting like Donald Trump’s lawyer.”
- House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY8)
“The MAGA Department of Justice is a disgrace. More than 10,000 lawyers have fled or been forced out, often after being asked to carry out illegal or unethical orders. Todd Blanche is at the center of the rot. If he becomes the next attorney general, Blanche — once Trump’s personal criminal defense attorney — will wield the Department of Justice against the president’s personal and political enemies, at the expense of the American people.”
- Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
