Welcome to Democrats Abroad Peru!
WE DID IT!!!!!! Thanks to you, and your tireless commitment and efforts to get out the vote, on November 3rd, the people of the United States went to the polls in the middle of the worst health emergency in more than 100 years. With your help, we organized and ensured a massive turnout from voters abroad, not only in Peru, but across the world. With your texting and phonebanking you helped to ensure that those who could vote early, did. And those who could not, had all of the information and resources necessary to cast their ballots. And now, despite an incumbent who refuses to acknowledge defeat, the Democratic Party has persisted in patiently awaiting the final counts. Yet, it is clear – Joe Biden, together with vice-president-elect Kamala Harris, will be sworn in on January 20, 2021 as the executive leadership of the United States of America.
We recall the balance of leadership imagined by our country´s forefathers – through the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government – to ensure that power would never consolidate in one, that the nascent republic would never fall to the will of a King. But let us not forget the most important component of U.S. democracy – the people. We, the people. We ARE the foundation of our democracy and in this election, THE PEOPLE spoke.
On behalf of Democrats Abroad Peru (DAPE), we thank you for raising your voice, and helping to lift others up as well. We won, and now it is time to continue the work of holding our representative leaders to account. That is the hard labor that democracy demands of us – if we are to keep it.
We will stay in touch as we near the presidential inauguration.
Leda (Chair) Jessica (Secretary) and Monique (Treasurer)
