Executive Committee officers:
Chair: Marsha Hagney (unopposed) |
For the past four years I have had the honor of serving two terms as Vice Chair of Democrats Abroad Netherlands. I am now hoping to continue to serve as Chair for DANL. Clearly, the past months have been challenging, to say the least, but DA stands strong as ever and ready to push forward to defend democracy and to achieve the goals that define our party and our country. I am looking forward to building on the momentum and strength DA has built and that has come to define us, as with the 2020 election when overseas votes made up the margin of victory for White House and Senate races in Georgia and Arizona. I am confident in seeking this position especially because, over the past few years I have been surrounded by some of the most talented, supportive and selfless individuals—from the Global leadership, to the volunteers who did so much to get out the vote in 2024. And, from day-to-day, at the top of this list, are my fellow DANL Executive Committee members. All VOLUNTEERS! We are well prepared for all that lies ahead. Ultimately, getting out the vote is the fruit of our labor. We will continue to work not only on national races but, of course, down-ballot races and ballot measures. Our great State Teams and Caucuses are, again, a great example of the support systems in place to maximize our efforts. Participation has never been optional for me, nor has complacency. With that said, only through supporting each other and coming together we can ensure we can breath and recharge as we resist, advocate and fight for democracy. What I said in my statement in 2024, holds true more than ever: “Hope. In short, DA is that for me and I know it can be for others. It is finding a place in these tough times where there is always something we can offer, no matter how seemingly ‘small’, to make a difference.” |
Vice-Chair: Tré Shawn Griffin-Noordermeer (unopposed) |
You probably know me and if not, Tre' Shawn Griffin-Noordermeer and for the past four years I've served as Chair of Democrats Abroad Netherlands. Just as my time was running down, I was asked by current Vice-Chair Marsha Hagney to run as a ticket. I am eager to pass the torch and be a resource to our future board and their new perspectives. Our election loss was devastating but none of us have a prileave or a right to check out completely. We must rest when we can and do what we can to fight back for our country, friends, and family. In whatever little or large way that we can individually handle. Grief and resilience are the human condition. I still believe we can only be successful with empowering our members and continuing to build on our strong base of volunteers. Overseas votes are more important than ever and are actively under attack with this administration via the SAVE Act and others. It is very important to me that we continue to reach those every single eligible voter and actively fight back. I've previously served as Chair of the Democrats Abroad Affirmative Action Committee, a Committee member of the, Co-Chair of the Democrats Abroad. |
Secretary: Audrey Tolbert (unopposed) |
My name is Audrey Tolbert and I’ve been a member of DANL for the last nine years. I live in Amsterdam and vote in the great state of New York. For the last two years I’ve served as your secretary and for the four years before that I was a member-at-large and DPCA voting representative. In my tenure as secretary, I’ve been able to see first hand how so many of the internal communications systems work within DANL and the global DA structure, all during a very busy presidential election year. I am very familiar with our CRM system, NationBuilder, and would like to spend the next term using it to the best of its abilities so we can more effectively reach even more Americans in NL. Keeping our membership up to date, crafting our messaging through email and social, coordinating with the executive committee, and much more are all challenges that I am not only very qualified to tackle but also look forward to working on. I would be honored to be re-elected as secretary of Democrats Abroad Netherlands and appreciate your consideration. |
Treasurer: Kallan Picha (unopposed) |
As a Democratic voter for 20 years and an educator for 15, I aspire to be a role model for my students and my community in bringing people closer together in a global environment seeking to push us further apart. A new resident of Amsterdam as of 2024, I hope to bring energy, optimism, and creativity to the next generation of Democrats based on my experience as a passionate global educator, mentor, and citizen. I currently serve as the Director of the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Center in Amsterdam and have a Master’s in Public Administration as well as a Bachelor’s in International Business with a minor in Accounting. Although my first job out of graduate school was in financial analysis, I have enjoyed working with both numbers and people throughout my career in international education. I have been elected to and/or chaired staff counsels at several higher education institutions, including Indiana University Bloomington, Pepperdine University, and the University of Wisconsin Madison, to represent the interests and amplify the voices of my colleagues. I believe in the Democratic platform that “health care is a right, diversity is a strength, the economy should work for everyone, and facts and truth matter.” Issues that are close to my heart include accessible and affordable health care, striving for economic equality, removing barriers to immigration, and utilizing American strength as a force for good in the world. In a time of turbulence, it feels ever more imperative to contribute in meaningful ways to support Democrats Abroad in the run-up to the midterms in 2026. It would be an honor to serve my fellow Americans in the Netherlands as we fight for a fairer and brighter future for all of us. |
Counsel: Cynthia Den Hartog (unopposed) |
A proud San Franciscan born to Mexican parents in a largely Latino, immigrant part of the city. I'm currently living in the middle-of-nowhere on a farm in South Holland. I became involved in Democrats Abroad because I was new-ish to the Netherlands and we were ramping up to the 2019 presidential primaries. My time in The Netherlands has shown me how important it is to continue pushing for change from abroad. |
Member-at-large (2 seats)
Sarah Dachos |
Hello! I am excited to express my interest in the position of Member-at-Large for Democrats Abroad. With a background in both activism and service in the U.S. Navy, I bring a unique perspective that blends dedication and a profound commitment to democratic values. About ten years ago, I became a passionate advocate, serving as one of the first chapter leaders for Moms Demand Action in DC, where I led advocacy efforts at the federal and local levels, including engaging with Maryland and Virginia state legislatures. My work contributed to national attention to gun violence prevention, such as in Time Magazine and outlets like Democracy Now! Since 2015, I have been deeply involved in grassroots campaigns, canvassing for candidates at all levels and training others to join me. I have lived in the Netherlands since late 2020 but returned to the US in September 2024 to canvass and train others for the Kamala campaign. Though I do not plan to return to the US in the near future, I remain deeply committed to preserving our democracy and supporting Democratic causes. I am enthusiastic about the possibility of working alongside other dedicated individuals in Democrats Abroad to make a positive impact. Thank you for considering me as a candidate. |
Tova Crystal
|
My name is Tova Crystal and I am running for the position of member-at-large. I am originally from the Boston area and have lived in the Netherlands for 3.5 years. I work as a researcher in environmental governance and have always had a personal passion for social justice. Before moving to the Netherlands I served as the Vice Chair for my town's Human Rights Committee and was further involved in my community through my work as a programme manager for the local YMCA. Through this position with DANL, I seek to reenter the arena of civic engagement and contribute to the expansive democratic community in this moment of extreme need. |
Pamela (Pami) Parker |
As an engaged American citizen living in Amsterdam, I am excited to nominate myself for the position of Member-at-Large with Democrats Abroad Netherlands. I bring a collaborative spirit, an open mind, and a deep commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive DANL and American expat community. With over 30 years of leadership experience and a practical background in learning and development, I have developed strong communication and organizational skills that I look forward to applying in support of DANL's mission. I value listening, learning, and building bridges—key qualities for being a reliable sounding board and contributor within the Executive Committee. As a Member-at-Large, I will support the goals of DANL by providing a thoughtful perspective during ExCom meetings, stepping in to assist with initiatives as needed, and contributing to the expansion of outreach and engagement with Americans living in the Netherlands. I am particularly enthusiastic about promoting voter registration, promoting activism, strengthening our local presence through community-building events, and ensuring that all members feel welcome and have a voice. I understand that this role requires both self-motivation and flexibility. As a recent retiree, I am ready to devote the time, energy, and creativity necessary to help us navigate this pivotal moment and make a meaningful difference from abroad. Whether it's organizing activities, supporting campaigns, or simply showing up with a positive attitude and a willingness to lend a hand, I'm here for it. Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would be honored to serve on the Executive Committee and help Democrats Abroad Netherlands continue to grow and thrive. |
Mimi Sur |
I am writing to express my interest for one of the Member at Large roles within Democrats Abroad Netherlands. As a dedicated advocate for democratic values, I can contribute significantly to our community and help advance our shared goals. I moved from Maryland to Netherlands in 2001, just a couple weeks before 9/11. Despite living close to the Nation's Capital, I wasn't really interested in the government. However, after moving abroad I joined as a member of Dems Abroad, and started to closely follow US politics. My work experience bridges stakeholders across the business and technology, and I have developed strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. I successfully manage diverse, distributed teams, coordinate complex projects, and drive strategic initiatives. My ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders will be invaluable in fostering a cohesive and dynamic environment within Democrats Abroad. I am committed to promoting voter engagement, supporting policy initiatives, and ensuring that the voices of Americans abroad are heard. I have volunteered for registering voters as a member of DANL and supported with voting registration list maintenance. I have also personally led initiatives among the local US expat community, organizing in person events and online groups to strengthen our bonds and support our journey outside the US. Additionally, I volunteer as a board member of Dutch nonprofit Female Ventures, a national network of professional women, and have served in my company's Works Council. I live in the Hague with my husband and 3 children. As a Member at Large, my goal is to work diligently to strengthen our community, and advocate for the issues impacting all, not just impacting Americans abroad. I welcome the chance to support the ExCom team and willing to take a hands-on approach. With the current political situation, I find it essential to become more actively involved with the political process for the future of my children and for the planet. I am excited about this opportunity and contribute to the growth of Democrats Abroad Netherlands. Thank you for considering my nomination. |
Katie McCarthy |
Hey everyone! I'm Katie (she/her), 25, and I'm running for a Member-At-Large position! Originally from Wisconsin, I've been living abroad for 3 years now, but just moved to the Netherlands in January. While I enjoy supporting my local Dems through text campaigns and phone banking, I'm looking forward to being a larger part of an in-person community movement! I firmly believe that while advocating for a better world, our joy and resilience comes from collective action. I'm particularly drawn to the openness of a Member-At-Large position, as I consider myself a project based creative. I am a team player with experience thinking big picture, as a Project Manager, and looking for fine details, through design and copy editing. I have an attitude of collaboration, happy to step in where needed. When it comes to supporting projects, I'm particularly interested in mobilizing around the right to vote, especially with the SAVE Act being discussed now. I'm also passionate about the right to vote for people convicted of a felony, something I researched in depth during my Masters in Human Rights. On top of the right to vote, I am dedicated to fighting for women's rights and advocating for legislative protections for abortion. I'm also a big people-person (thanks to my Midwest roots!) and will use my skills to continue DANL's work in community engagement. Especially in 'off years,' we know it is so important to keep the fire ignited, call in new members, and rally around collective causes, building a stronger base for the 2028 Presidential election. I have heard great things about DANL's community vibe, and would continue to cultivate it, through attending and hosting official events and social meetups. Professionally, I work as a Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator for a global nonprofit (Accountable Now) and will bring my skills in design, campaigns, and international collaboration to this role. In my free time I love to rock climb, cook seasonal meals, do mixed media art, and see if Dutch cheeses can live up to Wisconsin cheeses! |
DPCA Voting Representative (5 seats)
Andrew Tucker |
I am one of your current Democrats Abroad Netherlands DPCA (Democratic Party Committee Abroad) Voting Representatives. This means that I represent you at the global level of Democrats Abroad. I have lived in The Netherlands since 2019. I was first appointed to the DANL board in 2020 as a Member at Large. Ever since then I have been working tirelessly to help Americans exercise their right to vote from abroad. I have been active on LGBTQ+ caucus steering committee, the Voter Protection team, the Voter Assistance team, and many more. As a part of these groups I have hosted events, hosted trainings, and personally helped hundreds of voters through the voting process which can be very daunting at times. In 2024 I also had the honor and privilege of being elected as a Democrats Abroad Delegate to represent Americans living abroad at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. I was proud to cast my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris to be our party’s nominee for president. I plan to continue fighting to protect the rights of Americans Living Abroad, as many of them are at risk under this administration. I would appreciate your vote again this year to represent you for 2 more years as one of the DPCA Voting Representatives for Democrats Abroad. |

Bob Bragar |
Voting Representatives are that unique creature in Democrats Abroad, whose only job it is to cast DA Netherlands’s votes in elections for positions and policies at DA Global, to express our local needs and positions to DA Global, and to explain DA Global’s policies to DA Netherlands. |
Amy Fuller |
Member of Democrats Abroad since 2013 Leads Utrecht meet-ups Managed Utrecht polling station – 2024 Worked in voter registration events since 2018 LGBTQI+ caucus member Voted Democratic in every election since Clinton ‘92 |
Nick Lee |
My name is Nick Lee, and I am running for re-election as one of your DPCA Voting Representatives for the next two years. Since my election to the role in 2021, I have served on the Taxation Task Force doing policy and regulatory work, the 2024 DPCA Platform Committee, and as one of your representatives. Historically, I have taken the view that one of the core mandates for Democrats Abroad must always be to effectively advocate on the issues that uniquely affect Americans living abroad--because if we're not speaking up for ourselves, no one's speaking up for us. Now, more than ever, we need a DPCA voting body that is prepared to find its opportunities to be effective and to protect the vital interests and well-being of the overseas American community. Outside of my volunteer work with DA, I am a software engineer and am the chair of the works council / ondernemingsraad at my job, which equips me well for difficult and technical conversations. |
DPCA Non-Voting Voting Representative (at least 2 seats)
ShaJuan Studer (F) |
My name is ShaJuan Studer, I was born in Arkansas and grew up in the beautiful and ecologically diverse state of Oklahoma. In 1996 I graduated with a B.Sc. majoring in Biology/Zoology with a minor in Wildlife Conservation from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Soon after, I began studing for my Master's degree focusing on Entomology and Hydrology. Then, In 1998 my life took a sudden turn. I met and fell in love with a Dutch man, moved to the The Netherlands, and started a family. My professional life also gravitated away from ecology and toward QC/QA positions here in maritime, production, and most recently in the Pharmaceutical industries. Although I consider The Netherlands home, I've always had a desire to effect positive change for my family in the USA and for Americans living abroad. Historically, Democrats Abroad had been active in the North for a short period between 2007-2008. In September 2024 we were successful in breathing new life into the DANL-Groningen group where we currently plan monthly meetings and activities for our members living in Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. Other activities that take up my free time include spending time with family and friends, designing and building my garden, genealogy, scetching, painting, and the occasional quilt related project. |
Ryan Adams (M) |
