Update: Feb 12
Last night the House narrowly passed the so-called "Save America" Act, a voter suppression bill designed to disenfranchise millions of American voters. The bill is now headed to the Senate for a vote.  

The anti-voter “SAVE America Act” keeps the worst provisions of the original SAVE Act and makes them even more extreme.

The SAVE America Act would require voters to provide proof of citizenship in person in the U.S. when registering to vote. Voters would also be required to present proof of citizenship along with an approved photo ID when registering to vote and when casting a ballot.

These requirements would dramatically increase barriers to voting for millions of eligible U.S. citizens, and disenfranchise nearly every American abroad.

Trump and Congressional Republicans are aggressively pushing to pass the bill before the midterm elections to try to save their skins, in a coordinated effort to suppress the vote. 

Congress needs to hear from us now.

Why This Matters

Millions of U.S. citizens across the nation and abroad would be blocked from voting:

• The millions of U.S. citizens and military members serving abroad would be disenfranchised from registering and voting through in person requirements for registration and documentation requirements at both ballot request and ballot submission steps. 
• 21.3 million citizens lack immediate access to proof of citizenship
• 140+ million citizens do not have a passport
• 69 million women who changed their last name don’t have a birth certificate that matches their legal name
• Disabled voters and voters of color already face disproportionate barriers that this bill would worsen

Despite repeated claims, there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud. The SAVE America Act is not about protecting elections, it’s about tearing apart a representational democracy.
