The poem shown below is written by a military-connected member of the Democrats Abroad Global Veterans and Military Families Caucus, who resides overseas and wishes to remain anonymous. The author’s work, “Veterans Day,” is a reflection on service as a minority and as a patriot serving in uniform during the longest shutdown of the federal government in U.S. history. It was written in November 2025.
