GWC November 2021 Newsletter

Letter from the Editor

There is not a day that goes by that the Global Women’s Caucus is not aware of the immense threats to the rights of women and girls all over the world, however the ability to act on every development, or appreciate every advance, is difficult to do. Awareness doesn’t always involve an act, per se, but rather also a clear intention to be well informed. By gathering information from reputable sources and understanding how to express that information, we can all be warriors against mis and disinformation. As we celebrate holidays, once again in person with our loved ones, the GWC invites you to practice awareness as we both recognize the threats to women all over the world and discuss ways to alleviate these threats.

This GWC newsletter is taking on a different look to accommodate our growing caucus, but some elements still remain. Check out our Artist’s Corner and read ERA excerpts written by our members.

We hope you enjoy this edition, and we look forward to seeing you at our events!

Over the last several months, multiple teams have formed representing the interests of overseas voters from key states. We'll look back at the formation of this movement and the various activities of the different state teams. We will also strategize how to make an impact in the 2022 election cycle and win elections up and down the ballot.

The Reproductive Justice Team had an immensely successful twitter and social media campaign the week of September 13-20, 2021 to push for the House vote of the Women’s Health Protection Act, where it passed on strict party lines. We are told it was the most successful twitter campaign in GWC history.

We await the Senate vote, and ask our members to continue to put pressure on State legislators to minimize and stop anti-choice legislation and ABOVE ALL, get Democrats registered to vote to assure bigger margins in Congress in 2022.

The Supreme Court is scheduled for a hearing on December 1, 2021 on the critical Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. We are also watching to see if the Supreme case will weigh in on the merits of the hateful Texas SB 8.

We are also beginning to work closely with our Texas and Florida State Teams, and other state teams, to address the unjust legislature aimed at restricting women’s reproductive autonomy and rights.

To volunteer with any of our teams, simply fill out the Volunteer Interest Form.

December’s theme specifically speaks to those heading home for the holidays and who would like advice and suggestions about talking with Republican family members. This talk will be given by DA Spain member Victor Horcasitas and will take place on December 15th.

ERA Story

“I went to all girls college for my Master’s degree in 2012. I did not understand why there were still all girls colleges! But my time in the college taught me the value of having such institutions, where women are at the center, surrounded by women and constantly inspired and encouraged by other women. I left the college empowered and with the conviction that I could achieve anything! But reality at the work place made me very aware that I was not equal to my male coworkers and achieving my goals was going to be harder.” -- CA voter, living in Belgium
