What to Do Wednesday
Your Weekly Guide to Staying Politically Active—From Abroad
Wednesday 7 October 2026
This is it, folks
The moment is here. If your ballot has arrived, vote and return it today.
We have spent months talking about what is at stake. Now we need to turn our concern, our hope, and our determination into votes. And then help the people we know do the same.
Take Action Now
Give yourself two tasks today: return your ballot and contact five people.
- Have your ballot? Complete it, carefully follow every instruction, and return it promptly using a method permitted by your state. Check signature requirements and deadlines.
-
Need to return your ballot by mail? Consider using DHL. Democrats Abroad Italy has negotiated at 20% discount for US citizens to return their ballots.
- Go to any DHL ServicePoint in Italy.
- Give them promo code USA2026 for 20% off.
- Send it early so it gets there before your state's deadline.
-
Still waiting for your ballot? Contact your local election office. Find the contact information here Voting rules for US States | VoteFromAbroad.org In the meantime, consider completing and returning a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot, also called the backup ballot. Find more information here: Election Forms and Materials FVAP.gov
-
Haven’t requested a ballot? Go to VoteFromAbroad.org now to check your state’s deadlines and take the next step.
-
Already voted? Reach out personally to five American friends, relatives, or colleagues, in Italy or back in the United States. Ask about their voting plans and offer help.
- Need help? Write to us at [email protected]
Why This Matters
A personal conversation can move someone from “I’ll get to it” to “I’ve done it.”
This is relational organizing: reaching out to people you already know and trust. Research shows that personal outreach can increase turnout, making it one of the most effective tools we have for getting out the vote. You do not need special training to begin. You need a few minutes and a willingness to ask.
Try a simple message:
“Hi! I’m making sure the people I care about have a plan to vote. Have you returned your ballot, or decided when you’ll vote? If you need help voting from abroad, VoteFromAbroad.org can help.”
Then follow up. A reminder, an answer to a question, or help finding instructions can make the difference.
Positive Momentum
Every returned ballot is progress. Every personal conversation is another chance to bring someone into the process.
If you have already voted, thank you. Take that momentum into your circle. Encourage your friends to contact five people of their own. Together, we can turn individual action into a wider wave of participation.
A Thought to Carry Into the Week
“I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.”
Angela Davis
Let’s put that determination into practice.
Vote. Reach out. Follow up. This is it, folks.
