TECHNOlogy: HOW TO ROCK AN ELECTION
Social media has grown to become an essential tool of communication in the political arena and a powerful electoral influence on voters. In coordination, and at times in competition, with the mainstream press, social media’s reach is increasingly used to mobilize voters, enhance the public debate and win elections.
Democrats Abroad France invites you to a discussion of the impact of social media on politics and election campaigns. This is a timely topic as November 6 is Midterm Election Day in the USA.
Pierre-Olivier CAZENAVE is Director of the SOCIAL MEDIA CLUB FRANCE, an association of 100,000 social media professionals whose aim is to host conversations around the globe that explore key issues facing our society as technologies transform the way we connect, communicate, collaborate and relate to each other. SMC’s primary mission is to expand digital media literacy, promote standard technologies, encourage ethical behavior and share best practices.
Arnaud MERCIER is a Professor of Communication at the Université Panthéon-Assas, the Institut Français de Presse (IFP), a member of the Centre d'analyse et de recherche interdisciplinaire sur les médias (CARISM), Founder of the Observatoire du webjournalisme, President of THE CONVERSATION FRANCE and author of « Fake news et post-vérité : 20 textes pour comprendre et combattre la menace ».
Vincent MONCENIS is the Founder DIGITALBOX, an Saas (Software as a Service) startup, which designs community organizing software to enable a NGO, Political Organizations, Enterprisse and Governments to conduct data-driven campaigns and organize supporters/volunteers/fans on social networks.
Lex PAULSON is a Professor at SCIENCES PO and an attorney, writer, and consultant in international governance. Trained in political theory at Yale, Cambridge, and the Sorbonne, he served as legislative counsel in the 111th U.S. Congress, organized on four U.S. presidential campaigns, and has additionally worked as a volunteer attorney for Lawyers for Children America.
